Ed Budgen’s Business Bounces Back, Thanks to Neighborly Kindness After Milton

Ed Budgeon’s truck post Milton-Courtesy Photo

Ed Budgen, an Ormond Beach handyman, faced a serious setback during Hurricane Milton when a neighbor’s tree crushed his Chevy Silverado, a truck central to his business. With no reliable transportation for his tools, Budgen made do with his wife’s small pink Chevy Spark, taking on local jobs he could still manage. As he and his family endured a power outage and two weeks without work, his community rallied around him, providing essentials like food, gas, and even a generator to keep them going. Budgen’s neighbors also helped him find nearby jobs that didn’t require a full-size vehicle, enabling him to sustain his livelihood. Reflecting on the outpouring of support, Budgen expressed gratitude and a renewed “hope for humanity.” For this local handyman, the hurricane’s aftermath has underscored the strength of community bonds and the resilience they inspire.

Volusia County to Provide Free Rides for Voters on Election Day

Volusia County will offer free transportation on Election Day to registered voters using its Votran transit system. To take advantage, riders need only bring a Volusia County voter ID, though polling places without existing Votran stops will require additional planning. Votran’s Gold Service, available to disabled residents, provides direct trips to polling sites, and rides can be scheduled up to November 4 at noon. Residents of select areas, including DeBary, DeLand, Deltona, and Orange City, can use VoRide’s rideshare service for free by entering a promo code shared the Monday before Election Day. All riders must show voter ID to skip the fare. Gold users wishing to schedule a ride should call 386-322-5100 by Monday November 4th at noon.

Profeta’s Trattoria Closes Doors Shortly After Opening in Ormond Beach

Profeta’s Trattoria in Ormond Beach has permanently closed less than two months after its debut. Originally closing temporarily for Hurricane Milton on October 8, the restaurant’s doors remained shut, and it is now confirmed closed on Google. A note posted by the entrance cited staffing issues due to the hurricane. Owner Robert Profeta, a Port Orange native, stated he hopes to reopen in a different location, though no timeline has been set.

The restaurant, which celebrated its grand opening in late August, sought to offer an authentic Italian dining experience, featuring house-specialty pasta and pizza dishes inspired by Profeta’s Italian roots. Known for its reasonably-priced lunch specials, Profeta’s Trattoria had rapidly attracted patrons who enjoyed a range of pasta, frittatas, and homemade pizzas with options for vegetarians and gluten-free diners. Profeta expressed appreciation for the community’s support and remains hopeful for a future reopening. Follow their progress on Facebook.
