Good News! Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center Reopens with Holiday Shows After Fire Recovery

Courtesy Photo: Performing Arts Website

The Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center is welcoming back audiences this December after months of closure following a fire earlier this year. The center recently reopened its box office and is debuting a holiday lineup, including Children’s Musical Theater Workshop performances of “Disney’s Finding Nemo, Kids” and “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition” on December 6-8, and the Halifax Repertory Theatre’s “HRT’s Jingles & Jammies” on December 20-21.

The theater, which underwent an $1.7 million renovation before the fire, is now under the guidance of new coordinator Austin Branning, who joined after the previous coordinator’s retirement. His focus on community-driven performances and diverse shows has been widely praised by theater advocates, who look forward to a new era for the PAC. Tickets are now on sale for these much-anticipated events. Visit the center’s website here.

Volusia County Residents Can Apply for FEMA Aid for Damaged Wells and Septic Systems

FEMA announced assistance for Volusia County residents needing repairs for private wells or septic systems damaged by Hurricane Milton. Eligible residents may be reimbursed for assessment and repair costs, covering damages often excluded from homeowners' insurance policies. Those who have already applied for FEMA assistance but omitted such damages can amend their applications via the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. New applications are accepted online, through FEMA’s mobile app, or by phone.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, FEMA’s Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) teams will be stationed at three locations in Volusia County from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: American Legion Post 120 in Holly Hill, American Legion Adam Quinn Post 6 in DeLand, and Sunnyland Recreational Center in Daytona Beach. DSA staff will help residents navigate FEMA services, providing information on housing aid, property claims, and other disaster assistance programs.

Donnie’s Donuts Ends Florida Operations, Invites Fans to Atlanta Location

Image: Donnie’s Donuts Website

Donnie’s Donuts has closed its last Florida location at One Daytona, as announced by owners Donald and Patti Summerlin on Nov. 1. This decision follows an earlier closure of their Ormond Beach shop in January, with the couple citing rising business insurance costs and economic damage from repeated hurricanes as factors.

Donnie’s Donuts, which began on Seabreeze Boulevard in 2015 and moved to Ormond Beach in 2016, gained popularity for its innovative doughnuts and ranked 12th on Yelp's Top 100 Donut Shops in the U.S. in 2022. Despite their success, the Summerlins shared the toll of maintaining operations amid increased financial pressures.

Their remaining store in Atlanta, Georgia, now serves as the final Donnie’s Donuts location, and the Summerlins expressed gratitude to their Florida customers, inviting them to visit the Atlanta shop if possible.
