Security First Teams Up to Provide Thanksgiving Meals for Families in Need
Courtesy Photo
Security First Insurance employees joined forces on Nov. 13 to host the annual Giving Thanks Decorating Contest, creating decorated baskets filled with non-perishable food and grocery store gift cards. This year’s effort provided a week’s worth of meals for 18 local families, with donations totaling nearly $1,600 in gift cards, exceeding last year’s contributions. Partnering with the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties, the baskets were distributed to families in need, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Over 200 employees participated, combining creativity with community spirit. Among the standout creations, the underwriting team’s “Gravy Train” basket earned first place, followed by customer support’s “Heartfelt Hauler” and the claims department’s “Turkey Technical Team.” The event highlighted Security First’s commitment to making a difference during the holiday season.

A Heartbreaking Goodbye: New Smyrna Man Parts with Dog Amid Struggles
A New Smyrna Beach man, Brandon, faced the difficult decision to surrender his dog, Sarge, after losing his housing. Wanting to ensure Sarge received the care he needed, Brandon brought him to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, an emotional moment that touched shelter staff and inspired community support after being shared on social media.
The shelter temporarily placed Sarge in a foster home, pausing his adoption process, while funds raised through donations are being used to assist Brandon in securing stable housing. The story highlights the resilience of both a man and his dog and the power of a compassionate community rallying to support them during tough times.
