Community Rallies to Support Family of Waylon Childs
IMahge: GoFundMe Webpage
The Ormond Beach community is coming together to support the family of 4-year-old Waylon Childs, whose life was tragically cut short. Waylon’s body was discovered Sunday night by the Volusia County Dive Team in Central Park on Fleming Avenue, just hours after he had been reported missing.
In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, several fundraisers have been launched to help his grieving family manage expenses and honor his memory. Waylon’s parents, Kristin Scarborough and Scott Childs, described their son as a joyful, energetic child who brought light and love to everyone around him.
A GoFundMe page set up by the family shares their devastation and reflects on Waylon’s boundless curiosity and sweet nature. Additional aid options include Meal Train and GiveInKind campaigns, offering opportunities for the community to provide meals, donations, and other support.
For those looking to contribute, confirmed fundraisers include:
GoFundMe: Support for Waylon's Family & Honor Waylon’s Memory
Meal Train: Provide Meals for the Childs Family
GiveInKind: Aid for the Childs Family
The family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and generosity as they navigate this difficult time.

October Rainfall Sets Records, Boosts Aquifer Levels in St. Johns District
Courtesy St Johns Water District
October brought unprecedented rainfall across the St. Johns River Water Management District, with 15 counties, including Volusia, Seminole, and Lake, exceeding 11 inches. This came on the heels of a wet September and Hurricane Milton’s arrival, resulting in widespread flooding and saturated soils. Volusia County recorded the highest rainfall at 15.37 inches, while districtwide totals averaged 8.41 inches, more than double the October norm.
Annual rainfall surpassed historical averages by over 10 inches in several areas, with Volusia and Nassau counties leading. Groundwater levels reached the 91st percentile, with wells showing historic highs and the Upper Floridan Aquifer benefiting from significant recharge.
Regional springs also reported strong flows. Silver Springs recorded 518 million gallons per day, and provisional data indicated a record flow at Rock Springs. While the region benefits from abundant water levels, officials urge continued conservation practices to ensure sustainability.
