Thanksgiving 2024: A Patchwork of Gratitude and Togetherness
Photo: Volusia County
The scent of roasted turkey mingling with hints of cinnamon and pumpkin wafts through homes this Thanksgiving, a day that feels like it’s wearing a warm, nostalgic sweater. It’s here again—Thanksgiving 2024—a chance to pause and wrestle with that complex feeling of gratitude. There’s a lot, isn’t there? Resilient neighborhoods, hugs you didn’t know you missed, and the comfort of noisy, chaotic dinners where everyone talks over each other.
Thanksgiving has this timeless way of knitting people together. This year, it feels sharper, more personal. Maybe it’s the years of uncertainty still faintly echoing in the background, or maybe it’s just that we’ve learned to cherish the small stuff again. People are gathering—finally—and when the stories start rolling, they tumble out with that beautiful mix of laughter, sighs, and “Wait, remember when...?” It’s not about the turkey, really, but about belonging.
And then there are the unsung heroes. You know, the ones who don’t make big speeches but somehow hold everything together—nurses, teachers, bus drivers. These folks have been quietly carrying us through, and this year feels like a good time to whisper “thank you” into the universe for them. Compassion isn’t flashy, but it’s the glue keeping communities from unraveling.
But Thanksgiving isn’t just about looking inward—it’s about giving outward, too. Food banks and shelters are buzzing right now with volunteers. It’s not just seasonal cheer; it’s something deeper. People showing up to say, “Hey, I see you,” with cans of soup or warm meals. Kindness feels contagious this year, in the best way.
Oh, and there’s this new energy swirling around about sustainability. Have you noticed? It’s like people are waking up and saying, “We have to take care of this planet.” Even Thanksgiving dinner feels different—more local, more intentional. Maybe it’s small, but choosing produce from nearby farms feels like a tiny promise to the Earth that we’ll try harder.
So here we are, carving turkeys and passing gravy, but also carving out moments to appreciate how far we’ve come. Thanksgiving 2024 feels less like a holiday and more like a shared moment—this messy, imperfect reminder that gratitude isn’t just about counting blessings but about noticing the threads tying us together. We’ve got reasons to celebrate, big and small, and maybe that’s enough. Enjoy.
Arrest Made in Ormond Beach Shooting That Injured One Man
Detectives are investigating a violent altercation in Ormond Beach that left a 36-year-old man hospitalized Monday evening. Authorities responded to a home on the 1900 block of Linville Road at approximately 7:42 p.m. after reports of a shooting.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and a grazing injury to his head. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover. Preliminary findings suggest the incident stemmed from a confrontation between the victim and two men over a personal dispute.
After a multi-day search, authorities arrested 26-year-old Anthony Pezza in Palatka on Tuesday night. Pezza, a convicted felon, faces several charges, including attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. He is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail without bond. Investigators have not yet identified the second suspect, and the case remains active.

The new venture is a collaboration between Bret Adams of Monven Group, which operated Burntwood Tavern, and Ron Paranzino, whose family founded the Thirsty Turtle brand. Renovations are underway, and the restaurant is expected to reopen in a few weeks, bringing a refreshed dining experience to the community.
Adams expressed gratitude to Ormond Beach patrons and enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the restaurant's commitment to maintaining strong local ties through Paranzino’s involvement. The Thirsty Turtle Seagrill aims to offer a vibrant new option for residents and visitors alike.
