Ormond Beach Celebrates Small Business Saturday Tomorrow with Festive Flair
Image: Ormond Main Street
Tomorrow, November 30, Ormond Beach will transform its historic district into a bustling celebration of local businesses as part of the nationwide Small Business Saturday initiative. Organized by Ormond Beach MainStreet, the event highlights the importance of shopping and dining locally and is supported by the American Express Neighborhood Champion Program. The festivities aim to showcase more than 40 locally-owned businesses along Granada Boulevard, spanning from A1A to Orchard Street.
Visitors will encounter special sales, pop-up shops, and activities for children as they enjoy the festive atmosphere marked by signature blue-and-white balloons. Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and their elves will roam the boulevard, offering photo opportunities and spreading holiday cheer. Participating restaurants, such as Grind Gastropub, Rose Villa, and Wild Rabbit, will offer seasonal menus to keep shoppers fueled for the day.
In addition to the day’s festivities, the Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt kicks off on Saturday, extending through next week. Participants can search for hidden elves at various local businesses to win prizes redeemable at shops and restaurants throughout the district.
Maps of participating locations and updated event details are available online at ormondmainstreet.com/smallbizsat or via the Small Business Saturday in Historic Ormond Beach Facebook page. Organizers emphasize the event’s role in strengthening the unique character of the community and supporting its small business owners year-round.
Volusia Deputies End Four-Hour Standoff with Armed Gunman

A quiet Thanksgiving morning in Ormond-by-the-Sea turned violent when a man opened fire on neighbors and law enforcement, leading to a four-hour standoff that ended in his death.
Authorities say the shooter, identified as Joseph Difusco, a veteran and convicted felon from Connecticut, began firing at homes and residents near Ocean Shore Boulevard after deputies initially responded to a mental health crisis earlier that day. Despite efforts to provide assistance, Difusco refused medical evaluation and later barricaded himself in his residence.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood described the ordeal as unprecedented in his 37 years of service. The shooter reportedly fired nearly 200 rounds, targeting deputies and surrounding apartments. Attempts to negotiate were met with more gunfire, prompting law enforcement to position snipers and ultimately take action to end the standoff.
No residents or deputies were injured in the incident, which left the community shaken.
