Ormond Beach Celebrates Automotive History at 66th Car Show

Model A Ford

Ormond Beach's 66th Birthplace of Speed Antique Car Show offered a nostalgic celebration of automotive history at Fortunato Park on Saturday, Nov. 30. Despite the cancellation of the Gaslight Parade due to weather, the event, organized by the Volusia Region of Florida’s Antique Automobile Club of America and the city of Ormond Beach, drew enthusiasts eager to view classic cars from 1999 and earlier.

All vehicles adhered to strict originality standards, with no modifications or customizations allowed. Among the highlights was a 1965 Ford Falcon, owned by Sam Musgrove of Eustis, reflecting the meticulous preservation cherished by the club and its members. Set along the Halifax River, the show celebrated Ormond Beach’s ties to auto racing history while offering visitors a glimpse into a bygone era of automobile design and engineering.

Cold Shelters Open In Volusia December 2-4

In response to the expected temperature drop on the nights of Dec. 2 – 4, community organizations across Volusia County are mobilizing to open cold-weather shelters. Individuals whose homes lack sufficient heating or are without housing are urged to take shelter during these evenings.

The Neighborhood Center's The Bridge, 421 S. Palmetto Ave., DeLand, will open a cold weather shelter nightly at 6:30 p.m. Guests are welcome to stay until about 8 a.m. the following mornings after breakfast is served. For further details about the shelter at The Bridge, contact the Neighborhood Center at 386-734-8120, ext. 601.

Residents on the county's east side can obtain shelter from the elements coordinated by Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) in partnership with churches. To arrange for sheltering on the east side, contact HUM at 386-317-5886.
