Hammer-Wielding Neighbor Allegedly Targets Mailbox in Local Feud

An ongoing neighborly dispute in Ormond Beach turned destructive when a 53-year-old woman reportedly damaged her neighbor’s mailbox with a hammer. Police were called to the 300 block of Muddy Creek Lane after the victim, who was home with her toddler, heard loud banging and verbal threats from her neighbor.

The victim said she stepped outside to find her mailbox leaning and partially uprooted from its post, with a witness confirming that the neighbor had used a hammer to cause the damage. The suspect, who remained in her backyard, continued yelling at the victim during the incident, according to witnesses.

The estimated cost of the damage is $300. The victim has stated her desire to press charges, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.

Flagler County Advances Beach Restoration Plan with $35M Project

Flagler County is moving forward with a significant expansion of its Beach Management Plan, targeting spring 2025 to begin the next phase of restoration. Known as Reach II, the project will stretch from North Seventh Street in Flagler Beach to Varn Park, aiming to rebuild dunes and widen the beach after years of erosion caused by hurricanes and nor’easters.

Officials assert that human intervention is essential to restoring the coastline. The plan, adopted last year, ensures periodic beach nourishment to maintain a healthy shoreline. Earlier efforts under Reach I have already fortified areas near Gamble Rogers State Park.

The $35 million project, funded by the state after hurricanes Ian and Nicole, depends on property owners signing easement agreements for work to proceed. Local business owners see the project as vital for protecting the community and fostering economic resilience.

$22M Sale Marks New Era for Ponce Inlet’s Waterfront Landmarks

A $21.96 million sale has ushered in new ownership for Ponce Inlet's Down The Hatch Seafood Restaurant & Lounge and the neighboring Sea Love Boat Works & Marina. The deal, finalized just before Thanksgiving, transitions the 15.87-acre waterfront property from a contentious past—including a 12-year legal battle with the town—to a new chapter of opportunity.

Stephen Petersen, a seasoned marina and restaurant operator from Tequesta, purchased the property through his company, Cay Marine. Petersen, 41, is a second-generation industry professional, drawing on years of experience from his family’s marina business in the Bahamas and a business degree from Florida Atlantic University.

Local officials, including Mayor Lois Paritsky, welcomed Petersen to the community and expressed hope for renewed growth. The acquisition adds to Petersen’s portfolio, which includes a Sebastian marina, and reinforces his commitment to water-based tourism and hospitality.

Rep. Joel Rudman Aims to Repeal Gun Control Measures in New Bill

Florida State Representative Joel Rudman has filed a bill, HB 31, for the 2025 session to legalize open carry and repeal the state’s “red flag” law. Passed after the 2018 Parkland school shooting, the law allows courts to remove firearms from individuals deemed a threat.

Rudman, who represents District 3 and is running for Congress, argues the legislation underscores constitutional freedoms. The proposal also seeks to permit guns in polling places, on college campuses, and in career centers, where they are currently prohibited.

The red flag law has been credited by law enforcement with preventing violence, but it has long been criticized by gun rights advocates. Efforts to repeal it and legalize open carry have previously failed in Florida’s Legislature, partly due to opposition from law enforcement and top Republican leaders. Rudman’s bill rekindles the state’s ongoing debate over gun control and Second Amendment rights.
