Teddy Morse’s Daytona Harley-Davidson hosted its annual Toys for Tots Ride on Dec. 8, rallying riders to bring holiday cheer to children in need. The ride began at Destination Daytona, with Santa Claus leading participants to Walmart on West Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach.
Riders filled two dealership trailers with toys, including bicycles, dolls, games, and more, purchased during the stop. The gifts are now housed in the dealership’s showroom, awaiting pickup by the Volusia County Marine Toys for Tots program for distribution to local families.
To show appreciation, Daytona Harley treated all participants to a complimentary hot lunch at Open Road Cafe. Marketing Manager Rebecca Young expressed gratitude for the riders’ generosity and highlighted the dealership’s commitment to supporting the community.
This annual tradition is a testament to the spirit of giving, and Teddy Morse’s Daytona Harley-Davidson looks forward to continuing its efforts to make a difference in children’s lives.
33rd Annual Ormond Parade Marches On Through Holiday Showers
Ormond Beach’s 33rd annual Home for the Holidays Parade carried on through rain-soaked streets on Dec. 14, as residents lined U.S. 1, Granada Boulevard, and Beach Street to celebrate the season. Hosted by the Department of Leisure Services, the event featured over 100 Santa’s Toyland-themed floats, live performances, and marching bands.
The evening kicked off with Ormond Beach MainStreet’s tree lighting ceremony at City Hall, where Mayor Jason Leslie and City Commissioners joined families for a festive start to the night. The Daytona State College orchestra provided Christmas music, while treats and drinks warmed the crowd.
A sudden downpour sent some spectators home, but the remaining floats persevered. Santa and Mrs. Claus, aboard the Abaco Windows float, successfully reached City Hall, spreading holiday cheer.
Becky Parker, Ormond MainStreet’s Executive Director, described the event as a cherished tradition, uniting the community to celebrate the season together.
Volusia Sheriff Arrests Suspect in Violent Motel Attack
David Baker Photo; Volusia County Branch Jail
David Baker, a 44-year-old man with a significant criminal record, was arrested Saturday after allegedly sexually assaulting and robbing a woman at a Daytona Beach motel, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called around 4:30 a.m. to the Motel 6 on International Speedway Boulevard, where the victim reported being held at gunpoint, forced into her car’s back seat, and raped. The suspect then fled on foot after stealing cash and cell phones.
Detectives used a description provided by the victim to locate Baker at a nearby Days Inn. The victim identified him through a photograph, and a search of Baker’s room revealed a pellet gun and the stolen phones.
Baker has been charged with armed robbery, theft, and cocaine possession, with additional charges pending DNA results. He remains jailed without bond. His prior charges in Volusia County include assault, battery, burglary, and grand theft.
