Ormond Beach Coach Makes Wellness Personal and Accessible

Halley Nolin - Courtesy Photo

Hailey Nolin, a fitness coach and entrepreneur in Ormond Beach, has built her career around helping others. Since launching her fitness and nutrition coaching business in 2021, she’s worked to personalize wellness plans for her clients, believing everyone’s needs are unique.

A lifelong athlete, Nolin’s journey into fitness began with weightlifting, inspired by her stepdad, and later evolved into CrossFit. This led to her passion for nutrition, where she teaches clients to embrace food, not fear it—cookies included.

Nolin’s dedication to improving lives extends beyond physical health. She encourages clients to visualize their goals through a “destination postcard,” focusing on how they want to feel at the end of their fitness journey.

Her optimistic and compassionate nature has earned her admiration, with clients describing her as “a ray of sunshine.” Nolin hopes her efforts will make a lasting impact on her community, helping others lead healthier and happier lives.

Kathleen Trutschel-Champion for Accessibility and Community Service

Kathleen Trutschel has spent her life proving that visual impairment is no obstacle to independence, service, or adventure. Born with glaucoma, she faced significant vision loss later in life but embraced the skills necessary to maintain her autonomy. Since 2022, her guide dog, M.J., has been by her side.

A dedicated Lions Club member, Trutschel served as president last year and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship award for her exemplary service. In 2007, she founded Guide Dog Users of Florida, an advocacy group educating and empowering guide dog users. She also participates in beep baseball and other activities that reflect her love of the outdoors.

Known for her courage and positivity, Trutschel stands up for accessibility rights and helps others whenever she can. Her community lauds her as an inspiration, embodying the belief that no challenge is too great when met with determination and heart.

Asphalt Shingles Under Scrutiny as Florida Targets Storm Resilience

Florida may soon move away from asphalt shingles, its most popular roofing material, as state officials prioritize storm resilience amid skyrocketing property insurance premiums. Insurance Commissioner Michael Yaworsky recently suggested the material’s durability falls short in Florida’s extreme weather, hinting at a push for more resilient options like metal or ceramic tiles.

While these alternatives could reduce storm damage and lower premiums, they are significantly more expensive, raising concerns about affordability. Some homeowners already face financial strain as insurers demand roof replacements based solely on age.

Programs like My Safe Florida Home aim to bridge the gap by subsidizing upgrades to storm-resistant materials. Since 2022, the program has saved participants an average of $1,000 annually on premiums, and legislators are considering doubling its funding in 2024.

As Florida navigates its insurance crisis, the shift away from asphalt shingles could reshape roofing standards, balancing resilience with affordability for homeowners statewide.
