Tom Kelly, a veteran tennis instructor with 30 years of experience, has been named head coach of the boys and girls tennis teams at Seabreeze High School. Widely respected in Volusia County’s tennis circles, Kelly served as the tennis manager at Daytona Beach's Florida Tennis Center for a decade and previously played collegiate tennis at Tulsa University.
Sources indicate that Kelly was encouraged to apply for the position by a local connection. His motivation stems from a desire to enhance the athletic experience for young tennis players, inspired in part by his own high school and college playing days, which lacked strong coaching leadership.
In a statement from Seabreeze High, Kelly expressed his excitement about helping students refine their tennis skills and fostering a passion for the sport. His appointment signals a promising new chapter for the school’s tennis program.

Frigid Temperatures and Rain Loom Over Central Florida’s Week Ahead
Image-WESH.com
Central Florida is enduring a cold snap following a rainy weekend, with morning temperatures plunging into the 30s and 40s and wind chills dropping as low as the 20s. While freeze warnings have expired , the chill persists, with cloudy skies and highs in the mid-50s.
Looking ahead, northern Florida could face freezing rain, ice, or even snow on Wednesday as rain moves in alongside falling temperatures. Central Florida, though spared wintry weather, should brace for a cold and soggy midweek. Showers may linger Thursday, but by Friday, dry conditions and a slow warming trend are expected.
Forecasters highlight "Impact Weather" as a concern throughout the week, cautioning residents to prepare for potential disruptions to travel and daily activities, particularly during overnight and early morning hours. The weekend promises a welcome return of sunshine and rising temperatures.

Port Orange Man Loses $100K in Elaborate Timeshare Scam
A Port Orange man lost more than $100,000 in a fraudulent stock buyback scheme targeting timeshare owners. Bob Hovan, 77, was approached by scammers posing as representatives of a real estate firm connected to Diamond Resorts. They falsely claimed he owned shares that Hilton wanted to buy for $61,000.
The elaborate scheme involved contracts, escalating fees, and professional-looking documentation to extract over $104,000 from Hovan, who later discovered the operation was a scam. His suspicions were confirmed when the IRS and the alleged escrow bank denied any involvement.
Hovan shared his story to warn others, particularly about unsolicited offers. Imposter scams cost Americans $2.1 billion in the first three quarters of last year, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Experts stress skepticism and caution when dealing with unexpected financial opportunities. Unfortunately, recovery is often impossible unless reported immediately.
