Florida Gas Prices Increased by 3 Cents Last Week

According to recent AAA data, gas prices in Florida have seen a moderate increase over the past week. The state's average gas cost per gallon now stands at $3.20, a three-cent rise from the previous week. Sources suggest the fluctuating prices are likely to persist, with no significant relief currently anticipated.

Several factors contribute to this price rise, including domestic crude oil prices reaching a three-month high and minimal subsequent falls. Compared to the national average of $3.12, Florida's gas prices are slightly higher. In contrast, Georgia enjoys lower prices with a $2.96 average.

Flagler and Volusia counties align with the state average. Among the cheapest gas prices in the state are in the Florida panhandle, whereas Central Florida along the Gulf of Mexico sees some of the highest prices.

SunBros Coffee Gains Approval for New Drive-thru Location in Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach City Commission has given the green light to a plan for a new drive-thru coffee shop, SunBros Café, to be located in the heart of the city. The commission unanimously approved this proposal on January 21, marking the second drive-thru-only coffee shop plan they have approved recently, sources reveal. The new shop, owned by Dan Sundell, is set to replace the old Massey Auto Brokers property at 14 S. Yonge St.

SunBros Café, which originally opened in Flagler Beach in 2021, will construct a 250-square-foot drive-thru facility at the new location. Despite the coffee shop fitting into the existing zoning regulations, Sundell had to seek approval from the commission for certain issues, such as waiving landscaping requirements and building wall signage standards.

Earlier this month, the commission also approved a redevelopment plan for an Ellianos Coffee location in the former Winn-Dixie parking lot.

Costco's Florida Stores Recall Smoked Salmon Over Listeria Concerns

In a Class 1 recall, the highest level of Food and Drug Administration classification, Costco has reportedly recalled its Kirkland Signature smoked salmon from Florida stores due to potential listeria contamination. Sources confirm that the Brooklyn-based Acme Smoked Fish Corporation discovered the presence of listeria monocytogenes in lab tests, prompting the recall. The smoked salmon was distributed to the Southeast Costco Distribution Center in West Palm Beach and Costco Warehouse stores across Florida.

While the products have been removed from store shelves, there are concerns that some customers may have frozen the product for later use. The company urges customers to discard or return any of the recalled salmon for a full refund.

Listeria can lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. According to the Florida Department of Health, pregnant women and their newborns are also at high risk.

No illnesses related to the salmon have been reported so far, sources said.
