Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) has earned the 2023 Southern Region Air Carrier Airport Safety Award from the Federal Aviation Administration. The recognition highlights DAB’s recent investments in safety and security upgrades, presented during the Southern Region Airports Conference in Atlanta.
Key improvements included enhancements to the Foreign Object Debris program, featuring advanced airfield monitoring equipment and efforts to track and reduce bird strike events. A $16 million security project bolstered access controls, surveillance systems, and operational integration.
Public safety remains a central priority, with Volusia County Fire Rescue and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office providing crucial support, including 24-hour law enforcement and K-9 teams. The FAA’s recognition underscores the dedication of DAB’s team to safety, a commitment further demonstrated by previous accolades from the Florida Department of Transportation.
DAB continues to set a benchmark for operational excellence and passenger safety in the Southern Region.

Ormond Beach Cleaning Company Owner Charged in $18K Theft

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office
An Ormond Beach cleaning company owner has been arrested on theft and fraud charges after allegedly stealing from a client’s home, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Catherine "Katie" Schulz, 33, the owner of Clean and Proper LLC, was accused of taking $18,500 worth of jewelry, Adidas sneakers, and medication from a customer. Detectives traced the stolen jewelry to a Port Orange pawn shop, where surveillance footage reportedly showed Schulz pawning the items.
She was arrested on January 29 and faces charges of grand theft, fraud, and multiple counts of dealing in stolen property. Schulz has since posted a $10,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to examine evidence and potential links to other cases. The arrest highlights concerns over consumer trust and security in home services.
Direct-to-Cell Starlink Satellites Launched by SpaceX's Falcon 9

Photo: SpaceX
SpaceX achieved another milestone on Saturday afternoon by launching a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, delivering 21 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit. The rocket lifted off at 2:18 p.m., carrying a payload that included 13 satellites with advanced direct-to-cell capabilities.
This mission marked the 17th flight for the Falcon 9 first-stage booster, a testament to SpaceX’s reusable rocket technology. The booster, which previously launched Crew-6 and USSF-124, was successfully recovered on a drone ship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
The deployment of the latest batch of Starlink satellites aligns with SpaceX’s ongoing efforts to provide widespread satellite-based internet service and further its leadership in commercial spaceflight.

When the Scratching Won't Stop: A Guide to Dog Allergies

Many dogs are facing unexplained itching, leaving pet owners searching for effective solutions. Veterinarians suggest that allergies—whether seasonal, environmental, or food-related—are often the root cause. While over-the-counter remedies, including antihistamines and medicated shampoos, can sometimes alleviate symptoms, more persistent cases may require veterinary interventions such as Cytopoint injections or immunotherapy.
For owners seeking drug-free solutions, omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil have been recommended for their anti-inflammatory properties, and environmental adjustments, such as reducing household allergens and maintaining regular grooming routines, may also help.
Persistent or worsening symptoms should prompt owners to consult with their veterinarian, as untreated skin irritation can lead to complications. In some cases, a specialist assessment may be necessary to manage symptoms and improve a dog’s quality of life.
