AdventHealth to Expand Emergency Care with New Ormond Beach Facility
AdventHealth is planning a new 14,500-square-foot emergency department in Ormond Beach’s North U.S. 1 corridor, aiming to provide faster access to emergency care for residents. The facility, located near the I-95 interchange, will feature 12 beds and a helipad but will not accommodate overnight stays.
The proposal was presented to Ormond Beach’s Site Plan Review Committee on Feb. 5, with officials emphasizing the department’s role in bridging the gap between urgent care and hospital-based emergency services. Patients requiring extended treatment would be transferred to a full-service hospital.
The project responds to ongoing community concerns about emergency medical access, particularly following the closure of Florida Hospital Oceanside in 2018. The site, formerly a blighted truck stop, was acquired by AdventHealth Daytona Beach in early 2024 for $2.375 million. Pending approvals, the facility would enhance medical access in the northern part of the city and surrounding areas.
Daytona Beach Marks ‘Race to Stop Suicide Day’ with Mental Health Advocacy

Daytona Beach leaders and mental health advocates gathered at Halifax Health on Feb. 12 to recognize Race to Stop Suicide Day, an event aimed at raising awareness about suicide prevention. Hosted in the France Tower, the event brought together mental health professionals, crisis response teams, and local officials to emphasize the importance of support and education.
City Council Member Stacy Cantu issued an official proclamation recognizing the day, while Halifax Health honored its mental health professionals for their ongoing work.
NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Daniel Dye and business leader Randy Dye, founders of Race to Stop Suicide, spoke about their six-year advocacy efforts. They called for greater openness in mental health discussions and reducing stigma in schools, workplaces, and communities.
The event reinforced Daytona Beach’s commitment to expanding mental health resources and ensuring that those in crisis have access to the support they need.
Developer to Pay $987K in Advance as Schools Struggle with Capacity

The Volusia County School Board has approved an agreement with Plantation Oaks of Ormond Beach, requiring the developer to prepay $987,000 in school impact fees for Phase 1C of the Fountain View subdivision. Once completed, the development will add 447 homes to Ormond Beach, pushing Pine Trail Elementary to an estimated 139% capacity.
School officials rejected the developer’s initial proposal to donate land near Westside Elementary in Daytona Beach, determining it would not sufficiently address overcrowding in Ormond Beach schools. Instead, the developer agreed to pay impact fees in advance to help fund expansions at Pine Trail and Pathways Elementary.
While the fees will support infrastructure improvements, officials noted they will not cover the full cost of needed school expansions. The development follows a 2020 zoning change that removed Plantation Oaks’ original age restrictions, allowing for more family housing and further straining local school capacity.
