Pilot Dies in Flagler County Plane Crash Near State Road 11

On February 14, a 2012 Cessna 208 Caravan crashed in a wooded area of Flagler County near State Road 11, resulting in the death of the pilot, who was the sole occupant. The aircraft had departed from Sebastian Municipal Airport en route to Palatka Municipal Airport. The wreckage was discovered shortly after midnight under challenging conditions. Investigations by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. The plane, leased from Eagle Air Transport, was intended for skydiving operations in the coming week. Local authorities are securing the site and assisting federal investigators. The pilot's identity remains unconfirmed pending notification of next of kin.

Joann's Departure Highlights Challenges for Daytona's Volusia Marketplace

Volusia Marketplace in Daytona Beach is confronting significant challenges as major tenants depart, including the forthcoming closure of Joann Inc.'s store. This exit follows the relocation of Ashley HomeStore and the closure of Big Lots, resulting in a 75% vacancy rate for the center. While the main building faces these vacancies, a smaller adjacent structure remains fully leased. Leasing agents are actively marketing the available spaces, highlighting the center's strategic location near Daytona International Speedway and a substantial local population. These developments reflect broader shifts in Daytona Beach's retail environment, with newer centers in the LPGA area drawing tenants away from established locations. Some other nearby locations closing according to the company’s website are Sanford, Altamonte Springs, Jacksonville.

NASCAR Advances Daytona 500 Start Amid Weather Concerns; President Trump's Attendance Confirmed

NASCAR has rescheduled the Daytona 500 to start at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time on February 16, 2025, an hour earlier than initially planned, to avoid forecasted afternoon rain. Gates will open at 9:00 a.m., and pre-race events, including a Pitbull concert and a U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds flyover, will proceed as scheduled. President Donald Trump is expected to attend, with Air Force One arriving around 2:00 p.m., prompting increased security measures. Attendees should plan for early arrival to accommodate the time change and enhanced security. The race will be broadcast live on FOX, with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
