Trump Attends Daytona 500, Citing Event's Unifying American Spirit

Former President Donald Trump attended the Daytona 500 on February 16, 2025, marking his second visit to the event. He described the race as a unifying occasion, embodying a spirit he believes will lead the nation toward renewed prosperity. Trump's arrival featured a flyover by Air Force One and a motorcade that led drivers in ceremonial laps. He addressed participants, emphasizing safety and expressing admiration for their skills. Accompanied by family and officials, Trump engaged with the NASCAR community, highlighting his connection to the sport. This visit followed his historic attendance at the Super Bowl earlier in the month, reflecting his interest in major American sporting events.

In a dramatic conclusion to the 2025 Daytona 500, William Byron secured his second consecutive victory at Daytona International Speedway. The Hendrick Motorsports driver, piloting the No. 24 Chevrolet, demonstrated strategic acumen and resilience, especially during the race's final chaotic moments.

The event, marked by multiple weather delays totaling over three and a half hours, tested the endurance and focus of all participants. As the race extended into overtime, a significant multi-car collision occurred with just four laps remaining, dramatically reshaping the leaderboard. Byron, who had been positioned ninth at the onset of the final lap, adeptly navigated through the ensuing turmoil to emerge at the forefront. This triumph makes him the first driver since Denny Hamlin in 2019-2020 to achieve back-to-back Daytona 500 victories.

The final standings saw Tyler Reddick and Jimmie Johnson finishing in second and third places, respectively. Notably, Ryan Preece was involved in a spectacular crash during the closing laps, where his vehicle became airborne and flipped multiple times. Fortunately, Preece was able to walk away from the incident without serious injury.

This victory also marks a milestone for Hendrick Motorsports, as it represents their record-setting 10th Daytona 500 win, further solidifying their prominence in NASCAR history.
