“You’re Fired”…Our aggregating software picked up the “Trump Attends Daytona 500” lead story yesterday where he was referred to as “Former President Trump”. Unfortunately we did not pick this up in our final proof read so we going to fire ourselves for missing this obvious error. Obviously President Trump is still very much our President.
Want to Be a Lifeguard? Volusia County Tryouts Begin Feb. 22

As summer nears, Volusia County is recruiting lifeguards to help safeguard its beaches. The Beach Safety Division will hold tryouts beginning Feb. 22 for applicants who meet age and fitness requirements, including a 500-meter swim and a half-mile run within specified times. Candidates who progress must pass background checks and medical screenings before undertaking mandatory training in ocean rescue and first response.
The role, offering $18.50 per hour, also includes a $1,750 incentive for those meeting specific weekend work requirements. Officials stress the importance of lifeguards in maintaining beach safety and encourage skilled swimmers to apply. Tryouts will be held at various YMCA locations in Ormond Beach and Port Orange. More details are available through the county’s Beach Safety Division. For more information, visit www.volusia.org/beach or call 386-239-6414.

Ormond Beach Event Encourages Planting for Bird Conservation
Ormond Beach’s Great Backyard Bird Count took place on Feb. 15 at the Environmental Discovery Center, highlighting the importance of native plants in supporting local bird populations. The event, presented by the city and the Halifax River Audubon, featured bird walks, educational exhibits, and family-friendly activities aimed at fostering conservation awareness.
A central theme of the gathering was the role native plants play in sustaining Florida’s bird species. Organizers stressed that by planting native vegetation, homeowners can help create essential food sources for birds, which rely on insects drawn to these plants. Visitors also had the chance to see birds up close, thanks to exhibits from the Friends of the Marine Science Center. The event underscored ongoing efforts to promote bird-friendly environments and encourage public participation in conservation initiatives.
Beloved Sandwich Shop Beach Belly Bob’s to Close After 10 Years

Beach Belly Bob’s Sandwich Shop, a longtime favorite in Flagler Beach, will close its doors for good on March 23, marking the end of an era for the locally owned eatery. The announcement, made via social media, was met with an outpouring of gratitude and nostalgia from the community.
Founded in 2014 by Bob Gamblain, the shop became a staple along SR-A1A, known for its gourmet sandwiches and welcoming atmosphere. In recent years, Gamblain’s stepdaughter, Amanda, took over operations, continuing its legacy. Both owners reflected on their time serving Flagler Beach, highlighting the friendships formed, the challenges weathered—including hurricanes and personal hardships—and the deep sense of community that defined their journey.
As the final days approach, customers can expect menu updates reflecting limited availability. The owners emphasized that while this is a farewell, it is also a celebration of the memories and connections made over the past decade.
Homeowners Can Still Apply for Assistance in Flood and Wind Protection Upgrades

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) continues to accept applications for the Elevate Florida program, a state-funded initiative designed to help homeowners safeguard their properties against future flood damage. The program provides financial assistance for elevating, rebuilding, or reinforcing homes, offering potential savings on flood insurance and long-term repair costs.
Homeowners across Volusia County are eligible to apply, even if their properties have not previously flooded, though priority may be given to those with prior flood damage. Participants must contribute up to 25% of project costs, which vary based on factors such as structure size and foundation type. The program covers up to 75% of eligible expenses, including temporary housing during construction.
Available upgrades include home elevation, mitigation reconstruction, and wind-resistant enhancements. With comprehensive support services included, officials encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their homes against extreme weather.
