Boutique Grocery Battle Brews in Daytona Beach Near LPGA and Williamson Boulevards

Photo: Sprouts GBP page
Daytona Beach is set to welcome three boutique grocery stores—Trader Joe's, Sprouts Farmers Market, and The Fresh Market—near the intersection of LPGA and Williamson boulevards, creating a competitive hub of specialty retailers. Trader Joe's is currently under construction at Tomoka Town Center, while Sprouts plans to break ground in early March on a 23,250-square-foot store at The Shoppes at Williamson Crossing, with completion expected by December. South of Sprouts, The Fresh Market is slated to open a 26,000-square-foot store at The Cay retail center, though official announcements are pending. The clustering of these retailers reflects Daytona Beach’s growing demand for specialty and organic products, positioning the area as a destination for upscale grocery shopping. As development progresses, local consumers will soon benefit from a broader range of grocery options, marking a shift in the region’s retail landscape and intensifying competition among boutique grocers.
Critics Say Volusia’s Development Standards Fall Short of Flood Prevention Goals
Volusia County is advancing new development standards designed to reduce flooding, though some argue the measures are too lenient. The proposed ordinances promote low-impact development practices but remain voluntary, offering developers incentives such as increased density, flexible lot sizes, and reduced fees for incorporating eco-friendly features like stormwater ponds and rain gardens. County Council Chairman Jeff Brower opposed the voluntary approach, advocating for mandatory regulations to address the region’s flooding issues. His previous proposal for a temporary construction moratorium failed to gain support. Other council members, including District 1 Councilman Don Dempsey, favor incentives over mandates, arguing that strict regulations could drive developers to neighboring counties. The Environment and Natural Resources Advisory Committee, which recommended the ordinances, continues to push for mandatory measures. The council is expected to hold a second reading and potential adoption of the ordinances in April, marking a key decision in the county’s efforts to balance growth and environmental sustainability.
St. Augustine’s Sing Out Loud Festival Announces 2025 Headliners
The Sing Out Loud Festival has unveiled its headlining lineup for the 2025 edition, scheduled for September 20th and 21st at Francis Field in St. Augustine. Leading the bill are Hozier, fresh off his Billboard Hot 100 hit “Too Sweet,” and Grammy-winning country singer Maren Morris. Other headliners include Beabadoobee, Vance Joy, The Teskey Brothers, Rilo Kiley, Father John Misty, Gigi Perez, and David Kushner. Known for featuring top names in alternative and indie rock, the festival follows previous lineups that included The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, and Eric Church. Tickets are available in three tiers—general, general plus, and platinum—ranging from $140 to $805. The festival’s 2025 lineup continues its tradition of mixing established stars with rising talent, offering attendees a diverse selection of music from rock, pop, country, and folk genres, cementing its status as one of Florida’s most anticipated live music events.

Health Risks Emerge as Weight Loss Medications Gain Popularity
GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic and Wegovy, originally designed for diabetes management, have become popular for weight loss, driving global shortages despite their limited effectiveness. While studies suggest these drugs may help reduce seizures and substance addiction, they also increase the risk of 19 health conditions, including kidney and pancreatic problems. Common side effects range from nausea and vomiting to abdominal pain, with more severe risks such as pancreatitis and thyroid cancer. Novo Nordisk, the maker of Ozempic, reported $40.6 billion in revenue, reflecting the profitability of quick-fix weight loss solutions amid rising obesity rates. However, health experts warn against relying on such treatments, advocating instead for sustainable methods like improving dietary habits, reducing ultra-processed foods, avoiding vegetable oils, and supporting gut and mitochondrial health. These lifestyle changes, they suggest, offer safer and more effective long-term solutions for maintaining a healthy weight and overall well-being.
