Bike Week 2025 kicked off in Daytona Beach with its signature mix of custom motorcycles, passionate riders, and a lively Main Street atmosphere. Among the standout attractions was a uniquely decorated 2014 Indian Vintage, featuring elk antlers and buffalo horns, capturing the admiration of attendees. Adding to the spectacle, a capuchin monkey rode as a passenger on one biker’s motorcycle, underscoring the event’s eclectic nature.
While the festivities brought economic benefits to local businesses and vendors, security measures were notably heightened this year. In response to a recent terrorist attack in New Orleans, authorities installed reinforced barriers along key access points, reflecting a heightened focus on public safety.
Despite these precautions, the spirit of Bike Week remained unchanged, with thousands of riders enjoying the camaraderie and spectacle. As the event continues through March 9, Daytona Beach anticipates strong attendance, reinforcing its status as a premier destination for motorcycle enthusiasts.
FPL Plans Bill Increases to Fund Solar Expansion, But Critics Push Back

Florida Power & Light has proposed rate increases that would raise residential electricity bills over the next four years, with a typical customer’s monthly cost rising from $134.14 today to $151.99 by 2029. The utility argues that the hikes are necessary to support 335,000 new customers and fund extensive solar-energy and battery-storage projects.
Critics, however, question FPL’s profits and its requested 11.9% return on equity, which exceeds what regulators approved for other utilities. Advocacy groups argue that these increases place an unfair burden on households while benefiting investors.
Regulators at the Florida Public Service Commission will review the proposal in the coming months, with hearings allowing consumer groups and business interests to challenge the plan. The decision will likely spark debate over the cost of transitioning to renewable energy versus keeping electricity affordable for Floridians.
Community Pays Tribute to Daytona Beach Firefighter After Tragic Death

The Daytona Beach Fire Department is mourning the loss of firefighter Richard Crapps, who died in an off-duty crash. Crapps, who had been with the department since December 2022, was remembered for his dedication to serving the community with pride and honor.
Officials have not disclosed details regarding the cause of the crash but have asked for privacy and support for Crapps’ family and colleagues during this difficult time.
“His impact has touched the lives of many and will carry on in our hearts,” the department stated.
As the community processes this tragic loss, DBFD officials encourage residents to keep Crapps' family and fellow firefighters in their thoughts.
A memorial service is expected to be announced in the coming days as the department honors his service and legacy.
