Ormond Beach Community Update
Local Artists Transform Downtown with Vibrant Mural Project
Ormond Beach is getting a colorful makeover as local artists Thays França and Teri Althouse begin work on a spectacular flower mural adorning their Art Spotlight gallery. The creative duo, who founded the gallery at 67 W. Granada Blvd. in 2022, received approval from the Ormond Beach City Commission in December to transform all four façades of their building.
Both artists describe their collaborative process as an extension of their friendship and business relationship. For França, this project is uniquely special as it marks the first time she's creating art for her own space rather than for clients.
Work began on the east-facing wall the week of March 10, with both artists expressing heartfelt enthusiasm about beautifying the downtown area. According to Althouse, seeing the mural taking shape from a distance was an emotionally rewarding experience.
A new lighted marquee-like sculpture will soon enhance the roofline as well, creating what the artists hope will be an inviting visual experience for the entire community.

NASA's SpaceX Crew-10 Mission Launch A Success
Looking beyond our community to the stars, NASA's SpaceX Crew-10 mission launched last evening from Kennedy Space Center at 7:03 p.m., after being postponed from Wednesday due to hydraulic ground issues.
The four-person crew includes NASA astronauts Anne McClain (commander) and Nichole Ayers (pilot), alongside mission specialists Takuya Onishi from Japan and Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov.
Their arrival at the International Space Station will enable the return of Crew-9 astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been in space since June 2024 due to safety concerns with their Boeing Starliner capsule, which reportedly experienced helium leaks and thruster problems. If weather conditions permit they could return as early as Wednesday.
During their mission, the astronauts will conduct over 200 experiments, including material flammability tests to improve future spacecraft designs, and studies on how space affects the human body and mind in preparation for future deep-space missions.

Local Law Enforcement Updates: Protecting Our Community
In serious local news, authorities continue their diligent work protecting vulnerable members of our community. An Ormond Beach man was recently sentenced to 366 days in prison followed by nine years of sex offender probation after pleading guilty to charges related to soliciting minors. Joshua Johnson, 41, was among eight individuals arrested during the Flagler County Sheriff's Office's four-month undercover operation dubbed "Operation Heartbreaker 2." Five of the eight men arrested in this operation have now been convicted.

In a related case, Ormond Beach police arrested 19-year-old Kyle Lambert on multiple felony charges involving an inappropriate relationship with a 12-year-old. The relationship was discovered when the victim's mother found concerning messages and photos on her daughter's phone. Lambert reportedly met the victim at Astro Skate of Ormond Beach.
Police spokesperson Pauline Dulange emphasized the importance of parental vigilance regarding children's technology use. There are concerns that other minors might have been involved, as the victim reportedly indicated Lambert may have engaged in similar behavior with other juveniles between ages 11 and 15.
Lambert is currently being held without bond at the Volusia County Jail, with a judicial order prohibiting him from contacting the victim or any minors. Authorities are encouraging parents to come forward if they believe their child might also be a victim.
