🏆 Local Law Firm Earns Statewide Recognition

Ormond Beach’s Kistemaker Business Law Group is celebrating a golden moment—literally. The firm recently earned the Gold Readers' Choice Award from Florida Community Association Journal in its March issue, recognizing standout professionals across the state. Leading the charge is Erum Kistemaker, managing attorney and shareholder, whose expertise in condo, construction, HOA, real estate, and business law has positioned the firm as a legal leader. Kistemaker has played a major role in shaping Florida's evolving condo laws and frequently shares insights through state webinars and panels. Her work on legislative task forces, including as co-chair of the education subcommittee, shows her commitment to both law and community education. “It means so much to be recognized...for our legal services within this very important category,” she said in a statement.

🛸 Strange Sighting Has Residents Looking to the Skies

From legal matters to the out-of-this-world, some Green Cove Springs residents did a double take last Saturday when a shape-shifting object floated silently through the sky. Described as black and morphing—sometimes resembling a turtle shell, other times a spacecraft—it was spotted hovering west of U.S. 17. The object made no sound and moved slowly, baffling onlookers. Coincidentally, Naval Air Station Jacksonville had just begun a round of training exercises 15 miles north of the sighting, but the object didn’t match any typical aircraft behavior. While some wonder if it was a stealth drone or balloon, others aren’t ruling out a UFO. The mystery remains... for now. More recently, a number of Daytona Beach residents have reported strange orb like lights the last few nights over the ocean. Some speculate they are seeing SpaceX launches or the moon.

🐾 Parents Push for Change After Tragic Dog Attack

Back on solid ground, an emotional story unfolded in Tallahassee as Michael and Tiffani Millett, parents of 8-year-old Michael Millett who was killed in a dog attack near DeLand, spoke publicly for the first time. Joined by Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the family urged lawmakers to pass House Bill 593, also known as the “Pam Rock Act.” The bill proposes tougher regulations for owners of dangerous dogs, including insurance mandates, secure confinement rules, and a statewide registry. The measure passed its first subcommittee unanimously. “Every morning, it’s like having to relive it,” said Michael Millett. The bill is a step toward justice—not just for their son, but for all Floridians.

🍽️ Chef Costa Dishes Stories and Sweets in Ormond

And now, a palate cleanser of a different sort: Chef Costa Magoulas brought culinary charm and a few good laughs to the Volusia Reads Together event at the Ormond Beach Regional Library. The longtime host of Daytona State College’s local PBS cooking segments shared behind-the-scenes stories (including the time he sliced his finger on air), discussed the evolution of kitchen knives, and answered audience questions. A Greek-American with deep roots in the culinary world, Chef Costa recalled childhood memories of chefs and brandy bottles in Charleston. The event wrapped up with a delightful bread pudding made with Krispy Kreme donuts—because what’s a good story without dessert?
