🏃♂️Mayor’s Health & Fitness Challenge Kicks Off
Ormond Beach residents laced up and weighed in as the 2025 Mayor’s Health and Fitness Challenge launched at the South Ormond Neighborhood Center on March 29. This four-week wellness push is designed for all ages and fitness levels, offering not just healthier habits, but a little friendly competition with prizes at the finish line. Mayor Jason Leslie encouraged locals to get moving, noting this year’s challenge comes with improvements—and promises of more to come. The program’s goal is simple: healthier bodies, happier minds, and a stronger sense of community. So whether you're tracking steps, shedding pounds, or just showing up for support, the challenge is a gentle nudge toward a better you.

🎓 Volusia Libraries Offering Free Graduation Photos
Graduation season just got a little more picture-perfect. Volusia County Libraries, including the Ormond Beach Regional Library, are offering free green screen photo sessions for graduates at every level—from preschool to college. Students can bring their own cap and gown or check with staff to borrow one. With fun digital backdrops and easy email delivery, the sessions are designed to be a stress-free way to capture an important milestone. For Ormond Beach, photo times run from May 11–14. Just don’t forget to bring your best smile—and your email address.

🦷 City Stands by Fluoride Removal Despite Pushback
Despite warnings from dental professionals, the Ormond Beach City Commission voted unanimously to remove fluoride from the city’s water supply—cementing a move that first began back in January. Supporters of the decision cite concerns about health risks and the ethics of mass medication, while local dentists argue the absence of fluoride could lead to higher rates of tooth decay, especially in children. The city will save an estimated $14,800 annually, but dentists say families could pay much more in dental costs. Some commissioners expressed openness to future changes or even placing the issue on the 2026 ballot. In the meantime, residents remain split as a recent Ormond Pulse poll with 83 votes for flouridation and 58 against with 15 undecided. As Commissioner Harold Briley put it, “Beauty is, we can always put it back.”
