🏖️ Speedway Ramp Reopens with a Smoother Ride
Upgrades improve access to “The World’s Most Famous Beach”
Beachgoers, rejoice—Volusia County is reopening the International Speedway Boulevard beach ramp with a fresh new look and better functionality. Starting Saturday, April 5, the improved ramp will offer three traffic lanes to ease congestion and improve access to the beach. Enhancements also include updated parking facilities and public restrooms, aimed at elevating the overall visitor experience. With spring heating up, residents who plan to drive or park near the beach can register for a free ParkVolusia permit at www.parkvolusia.org. These upgrades are part of the county’s ongoing commitment to maintaining accessible, welcoming coastal areas for residents and tourists alike.

♻️ No Changes for Good Friday Waste Pickup
Trash, recycling collection continues as usual for unincorporated Volusia
Good Friday might bring a day off for some, but waste collection in unincorporated Volusia County will carry on without interruption. Residents whose regular pickup day is Friday should have their bins at the curb by 6 a.m. on April 18 for standard garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk item collection. The Tomoka Landfill and West Volusia Transfer Station will also operate on their usual schedules, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., respectively. However, the county's Solid Waste Administration offices will be closed for the holiday, reopening on Monday, April 21. Residents are reminded to follow normal disposal guidelines, and those living in incorporated areas should check with their local providers for any service changes.

📚 Gulf of What? Florida House Votes to Rename a Landmark
“Gulf of Mexico” could become “Gulf of America” in state materials
In a headline-grabbing move, the Florida House has passed legislation that would replace all references to the Gulf of Mexico with the Gulf of America in school and state documents. The initiative, backed by Republican lawmakers and tied to a Trump executive order, would require updates to educational materials as they're refreshed. Supporters say the name change is about promoting national pride and "restoring American greatness." Opponents argue it's a politicized rewriting of history that could compromise the accuracy of school curricula and public records. The bills passed the House largely along party lines and await votes in the Senate. Meanwhile, state agencies have already begun making the switch, following directives issued earlier this year. Whether it catches on outside of legislative chambers remains to be seen.
