🚗 Sunbathing Snafu-A Jeep Jolt in Ormond Beach

Coleson Janey, 33, was soaking up rays near Cardinal Drive on Saturday when a Jeep backing into a spot ran him over. The Ocala sunbather suffered a broken forearm and femur, needing a titanium rod after surgery. Awake for the tire-over-head horror, he screamed through the pain as EMTs struggled with a sandy rescue. The 61-year-old driver stayed, earning a careless driving citation. Janey’s aunt questions the charge, but he’s optimistic about recovery. A sunny nap turned nightmare—proof life can shift in a skid.

🥞 From Cubicles to Pancakes: Ormond Beach Diner Takes Flight

Evgeny Dzyubin and Danielle Armenta traded corporate life for spatula and smiles, opening Ormond Beach Diner at 1460 Ocean Shore Blvd. six months ago. This New-York-style eatery, born from Dzyubin’s restaurant roots and the couple’s shared vision, serves up fresh breakfast classics like eggs Benedict and dinner specials like meatloaf. The decor nods to their journey with whimsical winged pigs—a playful jab at their once-distant dream. Locals have embraced it, even donating license plates to jazz up a blank wall. Open Wednesday through Monday, with dinner on weekends, it’s their “happy place”—and maybe yours too.

🤝🏼 Neighbors in Need: COAD Steps Up for Disaster Relief

When Chuck E. Cheese reopened in Port Orange on March 13, it handed $5,000 to Volusia Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD). Formed in 2013, this volunteer-driven nonprofit rallies resources for disaster recovery across Volusia County. Think tarping roofs or filling sandbags—practical help from neighbors like co-chairs Frank Bruno and Ray Parkhurst. With members like the Red Cross and monthly meetings at the Emergency Management Operations Center, COAD proves small acts can rebuild big. Want to pitch in? Check their site or call.

⛽ Pump Puzzles: Gas Up, Oil Down in Florida

Florida drivers felt a pinch last week as gas prices climbed 15 cents to $3.22, settling at $3.19 by Sunday—still higher than a month ago but below last year’s $3.48. Oddly, crude oil prices tanked to under $60 a barrel, the lowest since April 2021. AAA’s Mark Jenkins says this drop, tied to tariff fears and OPEC’s production hike, might ease pump costs soon. Volusia County sits at $3.19, with the panhandle cheapest and south Florida priciest. Relief could be on the horizon—just don’t hold your breath.
