⭐ Fall Prevention, Flexible Learning & A Wheelchair Tech Recall

🧓 Stay on Your Feet with Halifax Health
Halifax Health has launched a community-focused Falls Prevention and Assessment Program aimed at reducing fall-related injuries among older adults. In partnership with local organizations like the YMCA, Palmer Chiropractic Clinic, and Brooks Rehabilitation, the program offers a three-part approach: a free online risk assessment, an in-person evaluation, and community-based interventions.
Classes are already underway at Volusia-Flagler YMCA locations. The program is designed to not only boost physical strength but also build confidence and provide seniors with tools to navigate their daily routines more safely. If you or a loved one feel unsteady on your feet, it may be worth exploring this resource.
To start, visit halifaxhealth.org/fall-prevention or call 386-425-4224.

🎓 VFlex+ Lets Homeschoolers Learn Their Way
Volusia County Schools is dialing up the flexibility for students with the launch of VFlex+, a new part-time online program beginning in the 2025–26 school year. Geared toward homeschooled students, the initiative allows up to six online courses while still giving access to academic support—and a pathway to a high school diploma.
The tuition-free offering includes tech support, course flexibility, and even virtual guidance counseling. It’s designed for families who value independent learning but want the structure and benefits of a public school program. Students nearing graduation will need to shift to a full-time option like Volusia Online Learning to earn a diploma.
Virtual info sessions are coming up on April 24, May 8, and more.

⚠️ Wheelchair Users: Take Note of This Recall
Max Mobility/Permobil has expanded its nationwide recall of the Speed Control Dial for its SmartDrive MX2+ Power Assist Device. This small but critical component has been linked to unresponsive controls, involuntary movement, and unexpected shutdowns. That’s a big deal when you’re depending on it for mobility.
Originally initiated in December 2024, the recall now includes units shipped through March 10, 2025, due to mixing of redesigned and defective units. As of late March, there have been over 780 complaints and five serious injuries—including fractures and concussions.
If you own a Speed Control Dial from the affected period, stop using it and switch to an alternative controller. You can request a free replacement through Max Mobility/Permobil.
For more information, check the full recall details on the FDA site.

Pastor Al Stewart
Faith, Footsteps, and a Miracle in Holly Hill: Pastor Al Stewart’s Journey of Purpose
Pastor Al Stewart’s story is one of determination, divine direction, and deeply rooted community values—all of which now converge in a historic church nestled between a police station and a YMCA in Holly Hill. Originally from the urban neighborhoods of Waterbury, Connecticut, Stewart’s journey took him through Virginia and ultimately to the Ormond Beach area, where his heart—and a decades-old vision—finally found a permanent home.
Stewart and his wife purchased a home in Ormond Beach in 2021, but the connection to the area goes back further. “I’ve been coming down here for over 30 years,” he shared. His roots run deep—not only geographically, but spiritually. A dream he had in 1995 of knocking on doors led him to an apartment complex called Nova Woods, an image so vivid that when he passed it years later, he recognized it from the dream. It was then he knew: he was meant to be here.
From Evangelist to Pastor: A Unique Calling 🙏
Stewart’s path to pastoring wasn’t conventional. Originally ordained as an evangelist, he found it difficult to move on from people after they accepted Christ. “I couldn’t let them go,” he said. This deep pastoral instinct—concern for the spiritual and emotional well-being of others—led him to embrace a hybrid identity: both evangelist and pastor.
“I’m told I’m a rare breed,” he says, laughing. His approach is hands-on and personal—literally. Stewart still goes door-to-door in the community, meeting people, offering prayer, and inviting them to his church. “About 30 of our congregants have come through that ministry,” he notes proudly.
When the time came to leave Virginia, Stewart turned over the church he founded there to a trusted youth pastor. With no clear plan, but a clear sense of direction, he followed what he believed was divine instruction: plant a church in the Ormond–Daytona area.
