🧱 AIA Seawall Work Surges Forward

Volusia and Flagler counties are making strong strides in coastal defense with buried seawalls along State Road A1A. The Flagler section—stretching from South Central Avenue to just past Highbridge Road—is now structurally complete, pending a few finishing touches like landscaping and walkovers.

Meanwhile, the Ormond-by-the-Sea stretch, between Sunrise Avenue and Marlin Drive, is ahead of schedule. Crews are aiming to complete 80% of its structural piles before hurricane season kicks off on June 1. Concrete capping and dune restoration will follow, with the first beach walkover set to be rebuilt in May.

🏚️ Final Call for Hurricane Ian Assistance

Still fixing up after Hurricane Ian? You’ve got until 11:59 p.m. on April 29 to apply for help through Transform386, Volusia County’s recovery initiative backed by federal CDBG-DR funds. The program supports reimbursement and repair efforts—and has already assisted hundreds of homeowners.

So far: 48 projects are done, 102 are underway, and 458 more are in review. This is your chance to catch up before the deadline. And if you were impacted by Hurricane Milton, stay tuned—$133.5 million in fresh aid is coming this summer.

🚙 Jeep Beach Takes Daytona by Storm (Again)

It’s that time again—Jeep Beach 2025 has rolled into Daytona, bringing with it 10 days of trail-rated fun, beachside camaraderie, and big-time charitable giving. More than 25,000 Jeeps and 225,000 visitors are expected, making this one of the world’s biggest Jeep gatherings.

Jeep Beach isn’t just a party—it’s a major fundraiser. The nonprofit behind it has donated over $4.1 million to local causes since 2012. This year’s events include everything from beach parties at the Hard Rock to a massive vendor expo and a “Jeep Sweep” beach cleanup on closing day.

And yes, hotel bookings, beach flags, and even Jeep earrings are part of the vibe.

🐍 Watch Your Step-Snake Encounters On the Rise

As temps rise, so do slithery sightings. Experts say Central Florida’s housing boom is squeezing snakes out of their habitats and into more human spaces. From Eastern Diamondbacks to Coral Snakes, all six venomous species native to Florida are becoming more active.

Jack Facente, one of only three people in the state who extracts snake venom for research, says education is the antidote to fear. Snakes, he explains, don’t chase humans—they just want to eat, mate, and nap. His venom ends up helping develop treatments for diseases like cancer and dementia.

If you do encounter a snake, resist the urge to kill or handle it. Instead, call Poison Control or 911 in case of a bite. You can also use the SnakeSnap app to identify them from a safe distance.
