🎳 Beissel Strikes Gold for Youngstown State

Ormond Beach’s own Kara Beissel has bowled her way into the national spotlight. The Seabreeze High School alumna helped lead Youngstown State University to its first-ever women’s national bowling title. In a nail-biting 4-3 Baker final against Jacksonville State, the freshman bowled clean through her frames—eight strikes and six spares—and capped it off with a spare and strike in the deciding game. Her standout performance earned her a spot on the all-tournament team. Beissel, a powerhouse even back in her Sandcrabs days, still holds school records including a 280 high game. She’s now rolling strikes on a national stage.

📬 USPS Overhaul Begins—What It Means for Florida

Major changes are underway at the United States Postal Service, and Florida residents are among the first to feel the impact. As of April 1, the USPS has begun refining its service standards in an effort to save $36 billion over the next decade. Delivery times for certain types of mail may slow, and 10,000 jobs will be cut through a voluntary early retirement program. Meanwhile, a controversial merger proposal with the Department of Commerce, backed by former President Trump and Musk-adjacent Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is raising legal eyebrows and fears of even more service reductions. Still, USPS remains beloved, trailing only the National Park Service in public favor. Expect more changes to roll out on July 1.

🔫 FSU Shooting Prompts Gun Reform Clash

The recent shooting at Florida State University has reignited debate around gun reform, and the impact hit close to home for one Ormond Beach family. Phillip Reingowsky’s stepson was just 40 feet from the shooter during the chaos at the student union. While Reingowsky argues for “a good guy with a gun” approach, FSU junior Andres Perez—also a student activist—says stronger laws are needed to truly ensure safety. The conversation continues to intensify as lawmakers consider lowering the age to purchase a firearm from 21 to 18, a move that’s drawing sharp criticism from gun safety advocates.

🚗 Crash Rattles Daytona Beach Business

A two-car crash at the intersection of Seabreeze Boulevard and North Peninsula Drive sent one vehicle careening into Goldfingers Aesthetics during business hours. Fortunately, no one inside was seriously injured, but two people were taken to the hospital—one as a trauma alert. Staff and clients were shaken but safe, thanks to quick response by the Daytona Beach Fire Department. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by police.
