🚧 AIA-Ocean Shore Boulevard Closure Ahead
If you're heading south on Ocean Shore Boulevard anytime soon, expect a detour. Beginning April 29, the southbound lanes between Amsden Road and Neptune Avenue will close for about three months for drainage upgrades, curb and gutter work, and pedestrian improvements. This marks the second of three planned closures, with a third coming later this year between Standish Drive and Amsden Drive. Drivers will be rerouted onto Amsden Road, North Halifax Drive, and East Granada Boulevard. Flagging crews will assist at key intersections to keep traffic flowing.
For a full detour map and updates, visit the official FDOT project page.

🏢 Lawyer Dude Buys Downtown Daytona Landmark
Daytona’s second-tallest building just found a new owner — and a radical new name! Josh Wagner, better known as “Lawyer Dude,” bought the former Cobb Cole Center for $6.5 million and plans to rename it "Lawyer Dude Radopolis." Wagner, a former prosecutor and County Council member, grew up in the Daytona area and credits his personal-injury law firm’s success for the big move. The eight-story building will feature Wagner’s firm on the first floor, a coffee shop, a pizza venue, and creative spaces for artists. The building is already over 70% leased, adding to the momentum of downtown Daytona’s renaissance.

🧵 Joann Fabric Store Closures Reach Final Days
Florida’s Joann fabric stores are quickly disappearing, with nine stores closing on April 28 and more to follow by the end of May. After filing for bankruptcy earlier this year, the beloved craft chain announced all 47 Florida locations are shutting down. Among the few still open — at least for now — is the Daytona Beach location on West International Speedway Boulevard. However, it's just a matter of time as liquidation sales finish. Gift cards and special discounts are no longer accepted, and returns are off the table. Time to stock up while you can!

🛡️ Florida Loses $1 Billion to Online Scams in 2024
If you thought internet scams were bad before, brace yourself — 2024 was a record-breaker. According to a new FBI report, Florida residents lost more than $1 billion to online fraud last year, ranking third nationwide behind California and Texas. The biggest scams by complaint volume were:
Personal data breaches (4,539 complaints)
Non-payment/non-delivery scams (4,045 complaints)
Extortion (3,360 complaints)
Cryptocurrency scams (3,348 complaints)
Tech support scams (3,207 complaints)
The scams that cost Floridians the most money were:
Investment scams: $311 million
Cryptocurrency scams: $276 million
Business email compromise: $194 million
Cryptocurrency wallet scams: $114 million
Tech support scams: $75 million
Seniors over age 60 were hit the hardest, losing almost $300 million. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is — especially when it comes to cryptocurrency pitches or unsolicited investment advice.
