🕊️ Farewell to a Tourism Titan
Bob Davis, the beloved and famously outspoken champion of Volusia County’s tourism industry, passed away on Sunday at the age of 87. With nearly six decades of hospitality leadership, Davis wore many hats—mentor, philanthropist, ballroom dancer, and self-styled “Mouth of the South.” He led the Lodging & Hospitality Association of Volusia County and was deeply engaged in education and community service, especially supporting student scholarships and literacy programs.
From his early days in New York’s Borscht Belt resorts to managing Daytona Beach’s Hawaiian Inn for 23 years, Davis made his mark as a tireless advocate for tourism and local development. His colleagues fondly recall his 5 a.m. “ALL CAPS” emails and his fervent dedication to any cause he embraced—whether political, educational, or personal.
Community leaders across the region praised his unmatched energy, heart, and legacy. “He didn’t just love the hospitality industry — he cared deeply about our schools, our students, and their future,” said County Council member Matt Reinhart. Daytona Beach and beyond have lost a giant, but Davis’s legacy continues in the thousands of lives he touched.

🚓 Routine Stop, Unusual Confession
An Ormond Beach man’s routine traffic stop turned oddly candid last week when, after being pulled over for speeding and a suspiciously taped-up taillight, he voluntarily handed over a small amount of cocaine to police.
The 51-year-old was clocked going over 10 mph above the speed limit on South Yonge Street. He admitted to knowing about his broken taillight—something he said he’d been taping up repeatedly. But the stop took a turn when officers asked if he had any drugs in the car. Without hesitation, he handed them the evidence—placing the cocaine directly into the officer’s gloved hand.
While honesty is often the best policy, in this case, it also earned him a trip to jail.

🚨 Sex Offender Arrested After Child Abduction Attempt
Daytona Beach police have arrested a registered sex offender accused of exposing himself and attempting to abduct a child from a store on West International Boulevard. The incident occurred on Friday, July 11, when 55-year-old Timmothy Isaiah Hall allegedly grabbed a child by the arm after exposing himself. The child screamed, prompting Hall to flee the scene. Fortunately, the child was not harmed.
Following a multi-agency investigation, including help from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Hall was apprehended in Jacksonville. He remains in Duval County Jail without bond.
Hall’s criminal history includes a 2012 conviction for a lewd act in front of a minor, which placed him on Florida’s sex offender registry. His most recent actions have reignited concerns over community safety and sex offender monitoring.
