🌳 Outdoor Escapes Galore in Volusia County

Volusia County is stepping up to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with a showcase of its 59 parks covering over 10,000 acres. Whether you're looking to hike, bike, fish, or simply relax by the water, there's something for every kind of nature lover. From the sparkling springs at Gemini Springs Park to lakeside retreats like Lake Monroe and Lake Ashby, visitors can find dog parks, playgrounds, campgrounds, and even equestrian trails.

The coastal scene is equally vibrant, with 13 beachfront parks and premier spots like Smyrna Dunes Park and Lighthouse Point Park offering boardwalks, fishing piers, and dog-friendly beaches. Meanwhile, an ambitious trail system continues to connect communities, led by the Spring-to-Spring Trail which already boasts nearly 22 completed miles.

For those looking to stay overnight, camping options abound—from RV-friendly parks to paddle-in primitive sites tucked away in conservation areas. To plan your visit or navigate the extensive park system, download Volusia’s handy Parks and Trails mobile app.

🌧️ Rain Records Fall in Volusia County

Invest 93L, the tropical system that recently passed through, left its mark—especially on Daytona Beach. On July 15, the area logged a record 2.25 inches of rain at the airport, surpassing a daily record from 1935. Port Orange saw even more, with 5.10 inches.

Elsewhere in Volusia: DeLand received 2.12 inches, Pierson 3.76, Edgewater 2.70, and New Smyrna Beach 1.32. Flagler County had lighter totals, with Flagler Beach reporting just 0.41 inches.

The system has now moved into the Gulf, and meteorologists say the region can expect a return to typical summer weather patterns—meaning warm days, afternoon sea breezes, and scattered showers with heat index values reaching up to 107 by the weekend.

🕊️ Farewell to Bob Davis, Hospitality Giant

Volusia County is preparing to honor one of its own. A public visitation for Bob Davis, the revered Daytona Beach hospitality leader who passed away July 13 at 87, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 18 at Lohman Funeral Home in Port Orange.

Known for his charisma and deep community ties, Davis shaped the local tourism landscape over a six-decade career. His passing has inspired tributes from business, education, and civic leaders. Burial will be private, with a celebration of life event to follow.

Mourners are encouraged to donate to the Bob Davis Culinary and Hospitality Endowed Scholarship, established in 2024 at Daytona State College. His legacy will live on in the future leaders of the hospitality industry he helped define.
