🚀 Florida’s Next Rocket Launch is Set for Suppertime

If you’re in the mood for a sky show with your dinner, look up this Monday evening. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station between 5 p.m. and 8:13 p.m. ET on July 21. This launch could deliver the ninth and 10th O3B mPOWER satellites into medium-Earth orbit for SES.

Live coverage starts 90 minutes before liftoff at floridatoday.com/space, perfect for those tuning in from home. But if you prefer the real-deal experience, the Florida Space Coast offers several prime viewing spots. Depending on cloud cover, the launch might be visible from as far north as Jacksonville Beach down to West Palm Beach.

Top viewing recommendations include Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach Pier, and Playalinda Beach. Don't forget to bring a camera — twilight launches often light up the sky in spectacular fashion, offering a chance to snap unforgettable photos.

⚖️ Daytona Man Gets Life Sentence in Fatal Shooting

Turning to local legal news, Danitto Simpson, 27, of Daytona Beach, was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Donnell Williams last September. Simpson was sentenced to life in prison by Circuit Judge Karen Foxman following a four-day trial.

The deadly incident occurred on September 10, 2023, during a dispute at an apartment complex on Jean Street. Prosecutors said the two men were arguing over a woman — the mother of Williams’ children. The confrontation escalated when Simpson pulled a firearm, shooting Williams in the torso. As Williams tried to flee, Simpson reportedly shot him again. Williams later died in the hospital.

Eyewitness accounts helped authorities identify Simpson as the shooter. He was also charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant person. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Mike Willard and Philip Dunlop, with investigative support from the Daytona Beach Police Department.
