🕊️ Bob Davis Remembered: A Hospitality Legend’s Legacy Lives On
On July 18, Daytona Beach gathered to honor a true pillar of its hospitality and civic community: Bob Davis. Known for his boundless energy, compassion, and dedication to service, Davis was laid to rest following a heartfelt funeral service attended by business leaders, public officials, and longtime hotel employees alike.
Davis spent nearly 60 years shaping Volusia County’s tourism industry, mentoring everyone from student interns to hotel general managers. His career began in the 1960s and, over the decades, he became not just a businessman, but a beloved mentor and advocate for education and literacy.
Rabbi Mendel Niasoff summed up the sentiments of many in the standing-room-only crowd: “Make the world a better place... and say, ‘I do this for Bob.’” From personal anecdotes to public tributes, the event highlighted how Davis’s belief in people transformed lives and left a legacy that will endure.

🏠 $2.2M Riverfront Retreat Breaks Records in Ormond
A sprawling waterfront estate has taken the top spot in Ormond Beach's recent real estate activity, selling for a cool $2.2 million. Located at 1010 John Anderson Drive, this 8,960-square-foot beauty boasts five bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, and enough amenities to turn any weekend into a staycation. Think three fireplaces, a pool, a boat dock, a boat lift, and even a boathouse.
Built in 1983 and last sold in 1995 for $705,000, the home sits along the scenic Halifax River, offering prime views and direct water access. Its recent sale underscores a strong local market for luxury properties and may have other riverfront homeowners eyeing their next Zillow update.
The home’s mix of charm, size, and location made it a standout – and the highest transaction in Ormond Beach and Ormond-by-the-Sea from June 28 to July 4.

🛍️ August is Tax-Free: Florida's Month-Long Back-to-School Boost
Parents, take note: August in Florida is all about saving, thanks to a month-long back-to-school sales tax holiday. From August 1 through August 31, Floridians can stock up on school essentials – and a few tech upgrades – without paying sales tax.
The holiday includes clothing and footwear under $100, school supplies under $50, and even personal computers and accessories up to $1,500. It’s all part of a $1.3 billion tax cut package signed by Governor Ron DeSantis this summer.
With the school year starting August 11 in both Volusia and Flagler counties, this extended tax break couldn’t come at a better time. Whether you’re hunting down new notebooks, snagging a laptop, or prepping for that first day photo, you can do it with a bit more wiggle room in your budget.
