👮 New Officers On Duty in Ormond Beach

The Ormond Beach Police Department just welcomed three new faces to its force: Officers Arthur Abraham, Dante Eggins, and Brianna Kennedy. The trio was officially sworn in on July 17 after completing both the Law Enforcement Academy and the department’s in-house training program.

Local officials and department leaders gathered to celebrate the occasion, marking a key milestone in the officers' journey toward serving the Ormond Beach community. Next up for them is field training, before they hit the road in full force.

In a social media post, the department thanked the officers’ families and the city’s leadership for their support. Here's to a safe and impactful start for these new protectors of the peace.

🦉 Protecting Volusia, One Voice at a Time

What began as a grassroots protest against a fuel terminal has blossomed into something much bigger. Ormond Beach residents Elena Krafft, Robin Magleora, and Britney Álamos have launched Protect Volusia, a nonprofit aimed at bridging the gap between citizens and local government. Fueled by their experience uniting neighbors to oppose a fuel farm in 2023, the trio now seeks to keep the community engaged in ongoing issues like overdevelopment, flooding, and local policy transparency.

The organization remains proudly non-partisan, focused on collaboration, education, and empowerment. They’ve also launched an online shop featuring original wildlife photography by Magleora, with proceeds going toward their advocacy work.

Protect Volusia hopes to foster a network of community liaisons and has compiled helpful resources on their site to keep residents informed and active. Their message is clear: your voice matters — and together, they believe Volusia can thrive.

⚡ Bolt from the Blue Collapses Roof on Ormond Homeowner

Paul Hollib was napping peacefully in his Ormond Beach home when a bolt of lightning tore through the roof — even though the skies were clear and calm. The strike caused a portion of the roof to collapse directly above his bed, showering him in insulation and debris.

Though dazed, Hollib miraculously escaped serious injury. Family members described the sound as an explosion, and the house shook from the impact. The lightning surge fried some electronics, but thankfully, no fire started.

Ormond Beach Fire Department inspected the scene and confirmed there were no lingering hazards. While the roof and some appliances will need replacing, the family considers it a small price to pay given what could have happened.

🛒 Daytona's Costco: A Racetrack-Inspired Retailer

Costco may be rolling out new stores across North America this August, but none quite match the character of the Daytona Beach location. Located across from the iconic Daytona International Speedway, this warehouse store sports a unique checkerboard facade — a tribute to NASCAR and the speedway’s racing legacy.

The Daytona store, which opened last year as part of the One Daytona entertainment complex, continues to draw crowds with its mix of Costco staples (yes, including the legendary $1.50 hot dog combo) and a racing-themed twist. One Daytona was developed to complement the Speedway as a year-round hub for shopping, dining, and events — and Costco fits right into that plan.

Whether you're fueling up with groceries or soaking up some racing nostalgia, this Costco is clearly in a lane of its own.
