👨👧 Fatherhood Fiesta Returns to Ormond Beach
The DWALY Foundation is inviting families to celebrate fatherhood at its second annual Fatherhood Fiesta on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Casements. Founded by Ormond Beach’s own Darius Kelley, DWALY — short for "Daddy Will Always Love You" — is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering single fathers through resources, mentorship, and community support.
This free event promises something for everyone: workshops, a resource fair, live entertainment, food trucks, and a kids' zone packed with crafts and games. But for Kelley, it's more than a festival — it’s about spotlighting the joys and challenges of fatherhood. Having lost his first child to SIDS and later founding DWALY after seeing the lack of support for single dads, Kelley is driven to help others navigate their journey as parents.
He’s hoping families — especially dads — will join in, have fun, and consider supporting the foundation’s mission. “Fatherhood is unlike any other experience,” he said. “It’s a joy you never truly understand until it’s yours.”

👑 Local Girl Aims for National Pageant Glory
Gianna Capri, a proud Ormond Beach resident, is set to shine on the national stage as Miss Volusia County Junior All American. The rising star will compete in the Junior division of the Miss Junior All American Pageant from July 30 to Aug. 2 in Charleston, South Carolina.
Gianna will showcase her poise, charm, and confidence across categories including interview, evening gown, and activewear. The event, revived under RPM Productions, continues a storied tradition that once crowned Halle Berry in 1985. This year’s judging panel is stacked with celebrity names like Vanessa Lachey, Asya Branch, and fashion designer Daniel Musto.
Gianna will be representing not just Volusia County but also the hopes of young girls everywhere aiming to make their dreams a reality through talent, confidence, and hard work. Good luck, Gianna!

🍽️ Alfie’s Restaurant Still Cooking
Despite recent whispers,, Alfie’s Restaurant isn’t saying goodbye forever. Owner Greg Evans clarified that while the business has been on the market for years and a sale is indeed on the horizon, the restaurant is not closing for good. Any temporary closure will be just that — temporary.
Evans, who has cherished his years serving the community, is ready to take a breather with his family. But the beloved eatery is expected to live on, under new ownership who will carry the torch (and the tartar sauce).
So, while Alfie’s may go quiet for a bit, it’s not the end. Consider it more of an intermission than a curtain call.
