🚗 Parking Meters Hit the Sand - Ormond Beach Adds Paid Parking
Ormond Beach is stepping up its beachside game—and its parking enforcement. Starting soon, visitors at Andy Romano Beachfront Park will need to pay a $20 daily fee to park, aligning with Volusia County's ParkVolusia program. A $100 annual pass will also be available for frequent beachgoers. Volusia County residents can still park for free, but they’ll need to register their license plates.
City Commissioner Travis Sargent hopes Ormond Beach will manage paid parking better than the county, sharing his personal tale of three mistaken tickets—despite being registered. Ouch.
Failing to pay comes with a bite: fines start at $50 and double after 14 days. Unpaid citations may even lead to trespass warnings. The city is in talks with PCI Municipal Services, the same vendor as the county, to get the system up and running smoothly.
The move is expected to boost revenue while aiming for a more efficient and less frustrating experience for residents and visitors alike.

🥛 Got Raw Milk? Florida Says, “Drink at Your Own Risk”
At least 21 people—six of them children—have fallen ill after consuming raw milk from Keely Farms Dairy in New Smyrna Beach, prompting a warning from the Florida Department of Health. The culprit? Campylobacter and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, both of which can cause severe illness, especially in kids and vulnerable populations. Seven people have been hospitalized, with two facing serious complications.
Despite the farm's emphasis on "sustainable farming" and local delivery of unpasteurized milk products, experts like UF food safety professor Keith Schneider are waving red flags. He blames influencers and misinformation for raw milk’s rise in popularity, calling it a dangerous trend backed by sketchy science and TikTok enthusiasm.
Raw milk is legal in Florida for non-human consumption (wink, wink), but critics stress that pasteurization exists for a reason: to save lives. Schneider warns that marketing raw milk to kids is especially risky and likens the current trend to the survivor bias often seen with other high-risk behaviors.
Bottom line: Pasteurization isn’t the enemy—it’s your immune system’s best friend.

🌊 Buyer Beware - Florida Leads Nation in Flood-Damaged Cars
Florida has topped yet another chart—this time for the highest number of flood-damaged vehicles in the U.S., clocking in at more than 82,000. According to Carfax, these vehicles are ticking time bombs, often resold across state lines by shady sellers who scrub the damage clean… on the outside.
What does water damage really do to a car? In the short term, you may notice musty odors, rust, or discolored interiors. Long-term? Think fried electronics, faulty airbags, and brake systems that might quit on you.
Here are some red flags:
Musty smells or overly strong air fresheners (cover-up alert!)
Moisture in lights or dashboard gauges
Rust under the carpet or inside the trunk
New carpets or seat screws that look recently removed
Water lines under the hood or signs of muddy residue
Always run a title check, take the vehicle to a mechanic, and if it looks too good to be true—it probably floated here.
