🛬 JetBlue Returns to Daytona with Big-City Connections

JetBlue is making a high-flying comeback to Daytona Beach International Airport after a seven-year hiatus, and it’s bringing some East Coast flair with it. Starting December 4th, the airline will launch daily flights to Boston Logan and JFK in New York—two top destinations for local travelers.

Introductory fares start at just $59 one-way, making it an appealing option for snowbirds and city-goers alike. The year-round service boosts Daytona’s growing status as a regional hub, increasing the number of commercial carriers at the airport to five, now offering 11 nonstop destinations.

Airport Director Karen Feaster called it “a huge win for Volusia County,” citing the region’s consistent growth in passenger traffic and broader travel opportunities through easy one-stop connections.

JetBlue is also expanding elsewhere in Florida, with new routes to and from cities like Vero Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Tampa. Whether you’re a northerner heading to the beach or a local catching a Broadway show, JetBlue’s return promises smoother travels.

💧 New Utility Portal Rolls Out in Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach has gone digital with a brand-new Utility Payment Portal, launched on July 25. While it's packed with user-friendly features, there's a catch: residents who were enrolled in automatic payments before must re-enroll.

Need help navigating the new system? The city’s Utility Billing Department is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Just note—they'll be virtual-only on August 21. You can reach them at 386-676-3209 or dive right in at ormondbeachfl/utilities.

In other city news, Ormond Beach is also proposing new utility rate increases for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. The potential hikes include $2 monthly for stormwater, $11.59 for water and wastewater, and $1.97 for solid waste. These proposed rates are up for discussion at City Commission meetings on September 3 and 17.

🏡 Housing Market Hits a New Groove in Volusia-Flagler

The real estate rollercoaster may finally be leveling out in Volusia and Flagler counties. June's home sales and median prices closely mirrored those from a year ago, with 1,037 single-family homes sold and a median sale price of $362,500—just a 0.9% dip from 2024.

Real estate pros say the frenzy of pandemic-era price hikes has cooled, replaced by a steadier, more balanced market. The high-demand ranges? Homes under $250K and those over $1M. The mid-tier market, meanwhile, is seeing competition from new construction.

Notably, homes with assumable VA loans are catching buyers' attention. One Ormond Beach home with a 3.125% VA loan recently went under contract just eight days after relisting, highlighting how financing options can be a game-changer.

Inventory is also climbing: 3,576 listings in Volusia and 1,485 in Flagler, but still far below Great Recession-era peaks. Experts agree: while the days of bidding wars may be behind us, the market remains active—and far from the doom-and-gloom headlines seen elsewhere in the state.
