🛍️ Sea Dreams by Sara Marks a Joyful First Year

Ormond Beach’s coastal art scene just hit a milestone. Sea Dreams by Sara, the charming gift and art boutique on South Atlantic Avenue, celebrated its first anniversary on May 17 with a community-focused celebration. Shop owner Sara Meinking welcomed customers with live music, refreshments, giveaways, and meet-and-greets with local artists.

Meinking, a Flagler Beach resident, opened the store in May 2024 as her first venture into retail. The space offers everything from handmade jewelry to beach-inspired décor and craft classes. Reflecting on the event’s success, Meinking shared her gratitude in a video posted to her business's Facebook page, noting support from customers, the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce, and local networking groups.

“It just is an indicator that I’m doing the right thing and I’m where I’m supposed to be,” she said.

🌊 Volunteers Needed: Post-Memorial Day Beach Cleanup

After a busy Memorial Day weekend, Volusia County is turning its attention to cleaning up the coast. The Keep Volusia Beautiful Post-Memorial Day Cleanup is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Winterhaven Park in Ponce Inlet.

The cleanup, organized annually by the county’s Solid Waste Division, brings together community members to help clear litter left on the beaches. Volunteers will be supplied with gloves and trash bags on site, but are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen, and beach-friendly attire. RSVPs aren’t required but are appreciated to ensure enough supplies are available.

🛣️ Tragic Crash Claims Life of Ormond Beach Motorcyclist

A somber reminder to drive safely came early Friday when a 60-year-old motorcyclist from Ormond Beach was killed in a crash on State Road 415. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the man was riding southbound on his Harley-Davidson when a Ford Fusion turned in front of him near Fort Smith Boulevard.

The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, collided with the vehicle and later died at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. The sedan’s 48-year-old driver from Deltona also suffered serious injuries. The crash occurred around 7:16 a.m., and authorities have since cleared the scene. The victim’s name was not released at this time.

The incident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
