ULA's Delta IV Heavy Prepares for Historic Last Launch

The United Launch Alliance's Delta IV Heavy rocket is slated for its final launch this week at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, concluding its significant contribution to national security and space exploration. The Delta IV Heavy, known for its triple-booster launches and dramatic liftoffs, will be succeeded by ULA's more advanced Vulcan rocket. The Vulcan, designed with new engines and for reusability, represents the next generation of space exploration vehicles, building on the legacy and technological advancements of its predecessor. The final launch of the Delta IV Heavy, marking both an end and a beginning for ULA, is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. on Thursday at Launch Complex 37.

Ormond Beach Hotel Developers Rethink Sidewalk Plan After County Refuses To Maintain It

Developers of a new hotel in Ormond Beach are reconsidering their plan to build a public sidewalk to the beach after Volusia County declined responsibility for its maintenance and liability. The sidewalk, initially part of the development plan for the 137-room hotel approved in January 2023, faced setbacks when the county expressed its unwillingness to maintain it. This led to discussions among city officials and the planning board, who unanimously recommended its removal from the project plans.

Concerns centered on the financial and logistical implications of city or developer maintenance, with broader issues of jurisdiction and public resource allocation at play. The city commission is set to review this amendment in their April meeting, as the community watches closely.

Statewide Grand Jury in Florida Requests More Time for Vaccine Investigation

A Florida statewide grand jury, tasked with investigating COVID-19 vaccine-related issues, has requested a six-month extension from the state Supreme Court. Originally convened in Hillsborough County following Governor Ron DeSantis's directive, the grand jury cited the need for more time to complete its investigation, which has extended beyond state lines. Despite producing an interim report, the grand jury, through the Statewide Prosecutor's office, acknowledged the extensive work remaining and the complexity of the issues being examined. The request seeks to extend the grand jury's term until December 26, emphasizing the thorough and diligent nature of the ongoing investigation.
