Volusia ESE Teachers Overwhelmed by Post-DOJ Settlement Workload
Following a DOJ settlement addressing discriminatory practices against students with disabilities, Volusia County Schools (VCS) faces challenges in implementing new policies and procedures. This has significantly increased the workload for ESE teachers, who are now managing complex behavioral issues and compliance with individualized education programs (IEPs). The district, acknowledging the severity of the situation, is in continuous dialogue with the DOJ to refine these measures. The impact includes a notable shortage of ESE teachers and discussions about potential solutions, such as a dedicated planning day for paperwork and the introduction of a logging tool to ease the documentation process.

Police have confirmed the nature of the deaths and are continuing their investigation, offering condolences to the families of those involved.
Congress Releases Thousands of Hours of Jan. 6 Footage, With Privacy Measures
From CHA Subcommittee Reading Room Video
In a significant move towards transparency, the United States Congress has announced the release of over 40,000 hours of security footage from January 6th, 2021. This unprecedented initiative, spearheaded by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), will provide the public with a comprehensive view of the events that unfolded at the Capitol on that day.
According to sources close to the matter, the footage will be accessible through a specially designed 'online viewing room'. However, in a move to protect individual privacy, faces in any clips shared with the media or other entities will be blurred.
The decision to blur identifiable faces has been met with criticism from some defendants in the January 6th criminal cases, who argue that this may compromise the transparency of the footage.
In a recent statement, Speaker Johnson emphasized the importance of transparency for restoring public trust in government. Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), chair of the Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Oversight, echoed these sentiments, noting that their goal is to provide full disclosure of the day's events.
Despite the extensive release, certain footage will be withheld for security reasons or to prevent the harassment of private individuals.
Additionally, starting November 20th, the public will have the opportunity to view the footage in-person at the committee's offices on Capitol Hill. This in-person viewing offers more interactive features, such as selecting specific camera angles and narrowing down footage by timeframe.
The initiative, which came amidst increasing public demand and pledges from former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), has stirred debates on social media. Some critics, like Jan. 6 defendant Will Pope, have labeled the move a mere "publicity stunt", questioning the integrity of the blurred footage.
Concerns have also been raised about potential censorship on platforms like Google and YouTube, and the lack of a download function in the online viewing room.
Despite these controversies, congressional aides assure that the public can request specific clips, subject to committee approval and the blurring of identifiable faces.

Stock Photo by Canva
In the United States, a new respiratory illness in dogs has been causing concern. This illness, first noticed in the summer, starts with a cough and can develop into pneumonia, and is sometimes resistant to antibiotics. In Florida's Seminole County, eight dogs have shown symptoms but are responding to treatment. Veterinarians advise dog owners to limit their pets' interaction with other dogs and to keep vaccinations up to date. 🐶
