🛠️ Ormond Projects Score Big in State Budget

Volusia and Flagler lawmakers had their work cut out for them this session, and while not every request made the cut, several Ormond-connected projects earned a spot in the newly approved Florida budget.

Daytona State College received a hefty $5 million to build a 41,000-square-foot facility for aviation maintenance programs—training that will help meet rising demand for aircraft mechanics. Students can pursue associate degrees and transfer to Embry-Riddle for a bachelor’s, thanks to a strategic partnership.

Closer to home, the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA secured $1 million for accessibility projects. That includes ADA upgrades at Camp Winona in DeLeon Springs, soundproofing at the Ormond Beach YMCA gym, and a zero-entry Olympic pool in Palm Coast.

Ormond also benefits from a $700,000 collegewide safety upgrade for DSC’s campuses. It's a solid investment in local infrastructure, education, and inclusivity.

🎓 B-CU Welcomes a New Era with Dr. Mosley

Bethune-Cookman University has named its 8th president—and he brings a résumé built for transformation. Dr. Albert Mosley will officially take the reins on July 7, ushering in what’s hoped to be a bold new chapter for the Daytona Beach institution.

A first-generation college graduate from Shuqualak, Mississippi, Dr. Mosley arrives with 30 years of higher education experience, including innovative program development and major fundraising success at Morningside University. He holds degrees from Millsaps, Duke, Yale, and UGA, and his leadership has led to expanded curriculums in fields like AI, cybersecurity, and aviation.

B-CU’s board of trustees selected Mosley from 135 applicants. His story, from humble beginnings to the presidential suite, mirrors the kind of transformation B-CU aims to deliver.

🍫 Allergy Alert: Milk Found in Chocolate Nonpareils

Heads up if you’ve got a sweet tooth and a milk allergy. Lipari Foods has issued a voluntary recall for its 14-ounce packages of JLM-branded “Dark Chocolate Nonpareils” due to undeclared milk on the label.

The affected tubs—sold in stores nationwide—include several lot numbers that can be found on the bottom of the packaging. While no illnesses have been reported, consumers are urged to return the product for a full refund if they have allergies or dietary restrictions.

The recall stems from Lipari’s supplier, Weaver Nut Company, which first flagged the undeclared ingredient. For questions, customers can contact Lipari Foods directly at the number provided in the link below.
