🏈 Bucs Hold Off Mosley in Thriller, Head to Regional Final

Mainland High is one step closer to the Class 5A state semifinals after edging out Mosley 36-31 in a dramatic regional semifinal at Daytona Stadium. With just under two minutes left, linebacker Dennis King sealed the win with a game-clinching interception — his second of the season — after Mosley had clawed their way back within five points.

“It’s about surviving to advance,” said Mainland Head Coach Jerrime “Squatty” Bell. And advance they shall — to face No. 1 seeded Ponte Vedra on Friday, Nov. 28. The Sharks, who recently cruised past Beachside 38-3, will host the showdown.

Mainland’s offensive power came from running back Braylyn Simmons (181 yards and 2 touchdowns), quarterback Sebastian Johnson, and wide receiver Kadin Flores. The defense stepped up with four interceptions, including a 97-yard pick-six by Theo Bryant.

Coach Bell praised Mosley as “a championship level ball club” but emphasized that the Bucs made the play that mattered most. With practices continuing through Thanksgiving, the Bucs' journey rolls on.

🍽️ $40K in Grants Fuels Local Food Banks

In a timely boost before the holidays, the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties have awarded $40,000 in total grants to two food banks: The Jewish Federation's Doliner Food Bank and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Each received $20,000 during the foundation’s recent “Showcase Tours.”

Rabbi Rob Lennick noted a 21-22% increase in food demand over the past year, making this support more critical than ever. At Second Harvest, the funding will aid the Bring Hope program, which delivers meals to those with limited mobility or access.

Even small donations make an impact. “We have a lady who sends in $1 every month,” said Robert Thomas, Second Harvest’s branch director. “That becomes four meals through our Grocery Alliance.”

As more residents find themselves in the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) category, the nonprofit is doubling down on building both immediate relief and long-term resilience.

Trump County Poll Results

Overall, the feedback was overwhelmingly negative. The vast majority of respondents opposed the idea of creating a new county, with many citing concerns about increased bureaucracy, unnecessary government expansion, and higher costs. Several commenters argued that Florida does not need additional layers of government and that existing counties should focus on improving current systems.

A significant number of respondents strongly objected to the proposed name, expressing that naming a county after a political figure—especially one they view as divisive—would create controversy, polarization, or even push residents to consider moving. Many framed the idea as politically charged, with some mentioning worries about property values, community reputation, and further political tensions.

A small minority expressed support, generally noting potential tax benefits, local control, or personal alignment with the proposal. However, even some supporters questioned whether the organizers could effectively manage such an undertaking.

In short, responses leaned heavily against the proposal, with objections focused on practicality, politics, and potential community impact.

💎 "Lens & Gems" Showcases Nature’s Hidden Art

Art lovers, take note: Ormond Beach’s Art Spotlight Gallery is about to unveil a striking new exhibition titled “Lens & Gems,” opening Saturday, Dec. 6, from 3-7 p.m.

This unique duo exhibit features the intricate jewelry of Glenda Greenberg alongside the macro photography of Bernard Lee. Greenberg’s work highlights the distinct personality of each handpicked stone, while Lee’s up-close lens captures their microscopic intricacies, revealing “the soul of the stone.”

Visitors can explore this collaboration — which fuses artistic elegance with geological fascination — through December 31 at the gallery, located at 67 W. Granada Blvd.

Whether you’re in it for the sparkle, the science, or both, this exhibit promises a beautifully unexpected perspective on nature’s hidden treasures.
