Dr Dhiaa Daoud - Freedom Flotilla Coalition/Contributed

🌍 Ormond Doctor Detained on Gaza Mission

Dr. Dhiaa Daoud, an Ormond Beach emergency physician, was detained by Israeli forces on Oct. 8 while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid by sea to Gaza. Daoud says he and others aboard the aid flotilla were “kidnapped” in international waters, blindfolded, zip-tied, and taken to a maximum-security prison.

Speaking at a press conference, Daoud described harsh conditions during his detention. He returned home on Oct. 11.

Israel’s foreign ministry disputes his account, calling the flotilla a failed attempt to break the naval blockade on Gaza. The same day of the interception, President Trump announced a new peace deal between Israel and Hamas, including hostage and prisoner exchanges.

Daoud, a Palestinian-American, has a long history of humanitarian work and returned to Gaza during the recent war to provide medical aid. His story highlights the dangers faced by civilians providing relief in conflict zones.

🍨 Recall Alert for Ice Cream at Publix

A precautionary recall has been issued for half‑gallon containers of Publix’s Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream (UPC 41415 03043).
Some tubs labeled “Vanilla” may actually contain “French Vanilla,” which includes eggs—an allergen not declared on the label.

The product was sold in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and parts of Florida (notably excluding Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, and Sarasota) and carries a sell‑by date of June 19, 2026.

If you’re allergic to eggs, don’t risk it. Return the product to any Publix store for a full refund. No illnesses have been reported so far.

🗣️ First “No Kings” Protest in Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach hosted its first “No Kings” protest, with about 500 peaceful demonstrators gathered at the intersection of West Granada Boulevard and Beach Street. The protest joined a national wave of demonstrations against what organizers call executive overreach and erosion of democratic values.

Attendees, including high school students and retirees, carried signs and emphasized peaceful civic engagement. Organizer Suzanne McCarthy said the goal was simple: “There are no kings, no crowns, and no thrones.”

Participants were urged to stay involved beyond the protest—by voting, volunteering, and speaking out.

🏍️ Biketoberfest Fuels Tourism in Daytona Beach

The 33rd annual Biketoberfest brought the rumble of motorcycles and a boost of tourism to Daytona Beach. Riders from across the U.S. and even the U.K. filled the streets for four days of live music, scenic rides, and seaside fun.

For local businesses, the event is more than entertainment—it’s an economic lifeline. Funded by a tourism tax (not general tax dollars), Biketoberfest helps bridge the slow season between summer and spring break.

One attendee, 69-year-old Charles McIntyre, came with his son and grandson—three generations of bikers enjoying the event for the first time together.
