Ormond Beach Planning Board to Review Final Plats for New Plantation Oaks Subdivisions

Courtesy of the city of Ormond Beach

The Ormond Beach Planning Board is set to review final plats for two significant subdivisions in the Plantation Oaks area on August 8. The first, Bradford Lakes, will introduce 80 single-family homes on 53.12 acres, marking the fourth phase of the Plantation Oaks community, which was initially approved in 2002. The second project, Bradford Park, will feature 180 townhomes across 24.92 acres and will be developed by Meritage Homes of Florida.

Although Bradford Park is not part of the Plantation Oaks Planned Residential Development, it will share some infrastructure with the neighboring subdivision, including a sewer lift station and park amenities. This review signifies a continued commitment to expanding residential options in the Ormond Beach area.

Volusia County School Board Extends AdventHealth Partnership Through 2028

The Volusia County School Board has renewed its partnership with AdventHealth through 2028, continuing a collaboration that began in 2018. This extension designates AdventHealth as the district’s "official healthcare champion," reflecting contributions like 5,200 free sports physicals, 4,300 cardiac screenings, and $12,000 in medical supplies. The renewal comes after concerns about exclusivity were addressed, ensuring that students can pursue opportunities with other healthcare providers. Changes to the contract include replacing a section on e-care with a $10,000 health fund for schools to reduce chronic absenteeism.

The update clarifies that AdventHealth's goal is to enhance student health support without restricting access to other opportunities. The impact of the partnership is evident, with significant health interventions made, including lifesaving surgeries for some students. The revised agreement aims to better support student wellness and address prior concerns.

Boar’s Head Issues Expanded Recall for 7 Million Pounds of Deli Meats

Boar's Head Provisions Co., Inc., has expanded its recall of deli meat products due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall, which now includes about 7 million additional pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry, follows the detection of the outbreak strain in a liverwurst sample by the Maryland Department of Health. The expanded recall covers 71 products made between May 10, 2024, and July 29, 2024, under Boar’s Head and Old Country brands, with “sell by” dates from July 29, 2024, to October 17, 2024.

These products were distributed across the U.S. and to several international locations. The problem was discovered through an outbreak investigation, and affected consumers should seek medical advice if concerned about illness. Recalled products are marked with establishment number “EST. 12612” or “P-12612” on their labels.

Stay Informed With Volusia County App

Volusia County has launched a new Emergency Management app to enhance communication with residents and visitors during crises such as hurricanes and wildfires. The app retains features of its predecessor, including real-time situational updates, weather conditions, sandbag distribution points, shelter locations, and evacuation alerts. It also boasts an improved user interface, simplifying navigation and improving the overall user experience.

"With the enhanced features and streamlined interface of our new app, it better equips us to guide our residents through the steps of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies," said Emergency Management Director Clint Mecham. "It puts critical information directly in the hands of our residents, when and where they need it."

The app not only delivers real-time emergency notifications but also offers educational resources and preparedness tips for various potential disasters. Effective immediately, the previous app will no longer receive updates or be monitored. Users are encouraged to delete the outdated app and download the new version to stay informed and prepared. When searching for the app, enter “Volusia Emergency Management.” The division’s logo serves as the app’s icon. The app is available for download in both the App Store and Google Play.

Major Bug in Chrome Browser Leads to Disappearance of 15 Million Passwords

A recent bug in Google Chrome’s password manager led to the disappearance of over 15 million passwords, affecting users between July 24 and 25. The issue, limited to the M127 version of Chrome for Windows, prevented access to saved passwords and the ability to save new ones. Google apologized for the disruption and initially offered a workaround involving a startup command. The problem has now been fixed, with passwords fully restored. This incident highlights the need for a backup password manager, despite Chrome's generally secure reputation, to safeguard against similar future issues. Experts recommend a dedicated password manager such as Roboform or Lastpass rather than browser oriented password managers.
