Ormond Beach Welcomes Swillerbees Craft Donuts in Busy Grand Opening
Swillerbees Craft Donuts has expanded into Volusia County with the opening of a new location in Ormond Beach on August 12. The store, situated at 200 E. Granada Blvd., experienced a strong start, selling around 300 donuts before noon. The new shop is the third in the Swillerbees chain, which also includes locations in Flagler Beach and Palm Coast. The Wehde family, who own the business and a Waffle Cone ice cream shop and donut shop in Flagler Beach, transformed the space previously occupied by Donnie’s Donuts. The revamped store includes a children’s play area and a drive-thru, aiming to foster a community-oriented culture. The Wehdes emphasize creating a welcoming environment for both employees and customers. The Ormond Beach Swillerbees is open daily from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Flagler County Uses Drones to Enhance Beach Erosion Tracking
Photo: Fox35
Flagler County is using advanced drone technology to enhance its beach erosion monitoring efforts, thanks to a special FAA waiver allowing flights beyond the pilot’s line of sight. This development enables comprehensive aerial assessments of the county's Atlantic coastline, crucial for tracking sand loss and storm damage. Previously constrained by the need for visual contact, drone operations can now cover larger areas efficiently. The waiver, valid until 2028, supports ongoing beach restoration projects, emergency response, and urban planning. Recent drone images have provided detailed information on erosion patterns, allowing for more effective response strategies. County leaders view this as a major advancement in coastal protection and community service.

Volusia and Flagler Vie for Aura Aero's New U.S. Aircraft Production Facility
Photo: Aura-Aero
French electric aircraft manufacturer Aura Aero's decision to establish a U.S. production plant has stirred competition between two Florida counties: Volusia and Flagler. The 500,000-square-foot facility, which will create approximately 1,000 high-paying jobs, remains undecided between these locations. Sources confirm that no other sites are under consideration at this stage.
Flagler County officials have been tight-lipped about their bid, though it is known they have over 150 acres available at Flagler Executive Airport. In contrast, Volusia County is preparing a 54-acre site at Daytona Beach International Airport, which could be ready by early 2025.
Aura Aero plans to build two plants in Florida: one at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's research park in Daytona Beach for its INTEGRAL two-seater aircraft, and another for its ERA 19-seater electric-hybrid planes. The ERA plant's location is still under review. Florida's appeal is bolstered by state support and incentives, with each county offering competitive packages.
