🐱 A Purr-fect Reunion: Lost Cat Finds Her Way Home After 4 Years
Jessica Buchanan of Volusia County got a surprise few pet parents ever experience — her beloved cat, Precious, returned after a whopping four years on the lam. The two were separated when Buchanan was briefly hospitalized, and despite her frantic search efforts, Precious had vanished without a trace.
Fast forward to this year, when a good Samaritan brought an outdoor cat to Volusia County Animal Services for a routine Trap-Neuter-Release. A quick microchip scan revealed the wandering feline’s true identity: Precious. Thanks to the microchip (and Buchanan’s accurate description), the long-lost cat was finally reunited with her original human.
The happy ending comes with a practical reminder: microchipping your pets — and keeping the info current — can turn a hopeless case into a miracle.

🚗 Turkey Run Rolls On, Welcomes Next Generation of Car Lovers
From hot rods to heartfelt memories, the Daytona Turkey Run has been revving up holiday traditions for 52 years. Founder Stuart Sarjeant — who now drives a Tesla and a Rivian (don’t worry, he still owns a ’69 Camaro) — wants to ensure the next generation is welcome, even if they're more into Kias than Camaros.
What started as a rejected parade entry back in 1973 has grown into a mega-event attracting 200,000 visitors and showcasing over 7,000 vehicles. With a proposal written on a raffle ticket, multi-generational car clubs, and charitable scholarships, the Turkey Run has become less about horsepower and more about heart.
And the legacy continues. Teens like 15-year-old Samuel Cavaliere are joining the fold, proving there’s room for all — whether you're into street rods, stock Mustangs, or simply great family stories.

🐶 Paws and Play: Daytona Opens New Dog Beach Zone
Dog lovers, rejoice: Daytona Beach has officially gone to the dogs — in the best way. Starting December 1, a brand-new 1.7-mile stretch of sandy shoreline between Williams Avenue and Seabreeze Boulevard is open to pups and their people.
The area, inspired by the successful Ormond Beach Dog Zone, includes waste bag stations, signs, and even water bowls. Local working dogs like Abba, a K9 trained in explosive detection, are already enjoying the change of scenery — and getting some beachside training in while they’re at it.
Volusia County Animal Services will keep the area safe and clean, ensuring dogs are leashed and owners play nice. For many new residents, like KC Cote and partner Kevin Hahn, this upgrade makes pet ownership here even better.
So leash up and head out — just remember to pack the poop bags.
