🌳 Rooted in Tradition
The Capt. James Ormond Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has planted a new bald cypress tree in Central Park to celebrate Florida Arbor Day, observed on January 16.
The choice of a bald cypress—a tree native to Florida and known for its resilience and beauty—symbolizes the DAR's commitment to conservation and community enrichment. The local chapter, named after one of the region's historic figures, continues to promote patriotism and environmental stewardship with this latest green initiative.
Visitors to Central Park can enjoy the new addition and reflect on the importance of protecting native species. For those curious about the DAR and its programs, more information is available at CaptainJamesOrmondDAR.com.

💎 New Safety Net for Seniors
Next up: a new fund is here to lend a helping hand when it matters most.
The Council on Aging of Volusia County, in collaboration with the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, has introduced the COA Diamond Fund. Designed to provide swift, one-time emergency relief for local seniors, the fund aims to help those at risk of eviction, utility shutoffs, or disaster-related hardships.
With more than half of senior-led households in Volusia County struggling to make ends meet, this initiative fills a crucial gap. Former recipient Stephanie Doe shared her story of how similar aid helped her avoid eviction and regain stability after a hurricane—a reminder of the real impact these efforts can have.
The community is encouraged to contribute to the Diamond Fund now so that it’s ready to assist when applications open later this year. Every donation helps ensure that vulnerable seniors don’t have to weather crises alone.
