SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launch, scheduled to deploy 23 Starlink satellites, was aborted on Sunday morning just before liftoff. Originally targeted for 10:59 a.m., the launch was canceled with less than a minute remaining, though SpaceX reported that the rocket and payload are in good condition. The company has not yet provided specific details on the cause of the scrub. The launch has been rescheduled for Monday, August 12, at 6:37 a.m., with additional backup opportunities available until 9:49 a.m. This mission would have been the 17th flight for the first stage booster, which has previously supported several missions including SES-22 and multiple Starlink launches. Following stage separation, the booster is set to land on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

Florida School Districts Unite for New Anti-Substance Abuse and Violence Program
he Seventh Judicial Circuit's State Attorney R.J. Larizza and school districts in Volusia and Flagler counties have launched the "Safety First, Success Always" initiative to combat substance abuse and violence in schools. Announced on August 8 at the Kim C. Hammond Justice Center, the program, which also includes St. Johns and Putnam counties, emphasizes education, awareness, and accountability. Over the past year, Larizza and the districts have collaborated on addressing issues such as vaping and school violence. The initiative will integrate educational programs into state-required curricula and produce public service announcements to raise awareness. It also includes specific measures like a nine-week vaping education program for offenders and a unified code of conduct across districts. Officials hope the initiative will be a model for other regions in Florida, focusing on prevention and community engagement.

Update: Second Teen Arrested in Pierson Shooting Death of 17-Year-Old
Volusia County deputies have arrested a second teenager in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Odie Carbajal in Pierson. The new suspect, taken into custody on Saturday, faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted felony murder. This follows the arrest of another 17-year-old earlier in the week, who is charged with the same offenses. Both individuals are alleged to have met Carbajal under the guise of purchasing marijuana, only to attempt a robbery and shoot him. The shooting resulted in the injury of one person inside the vehicle, while another remained unscathed. Carbajal’s car was found crashed into a tree on Main Street late Wednesday night.
