Volusia Schools Reevaluate AdventHealth Agreement Amid Criticisms

Advent Google My Business Page

The Volusia County School Board has delayed renewing its five-year partnership with AdventHealth, citing concerns over the exclusivity clause that might hinder collaborations with other healthcare providers like Halifax Health. Initially approved in 2018, the contract makes AdventHealth the "Official Healthcare Champion" for the district, responsible for student health services and related programs. Superintendent Carmen Balgobin withdrew the contract for the second time, promising to revisit it at the next meeting. Board Chair Jamie Haynes and member Carl Persis emphasized the need for clear language to prevent misunderstandings and ensure Halifax Health's participation. AdventHealth's spokesperson highlighted the agreement's success in addressing absenteeism, athlete health, and career development. Haynes criticized the lack of mutual opt-out provisions, urging a thorough review. Persis attributed the contract's issues to former Superintendent Tom Russell's poor handling and expressed hope for a clearer, more balanced future agreement. (Ormond Observer)

Understanding Lost Dog Syndrome and Key Steps for Recovery

Lost Dog Syndrome describes the behavioral changes in dogs after being missing for a prolonged period. When a lost dog returns home, it’s essential to address their physical and mental state. Start with a vet visit to check for injuries like sore or raw paws. Expect behavioral changes, such as confusion and disobedience, which are usually temporary. Dehydration and weight loss are common, so follow a vet-recommended diet and avoid overfeeding. Ensure your dog gets ample rest to recover from the stress and exhaustion of being lost.

Factors influencing a missing dog's travel distance include temperament, appearance, location, and circumstances of their disappearance. Friendly dogs tend to stay closer, while aloof dogs travel further. Popular breeds are more likely to be picked up by strangers. Dogs lost in populated areas are found sooner than those in rural regions. Understanding these factors aids in both prevention and recovery efforts. (Learn More at DogTime.com)

Jennifer Miko’s Equestrian Adventures of Florida

Equestrian Adventures of Florida offers a unique and breathtaking experience: horseback riding on the beach. Founded and operated by Jennifer Miko, this business is about more than just horse rides; it’s about creating unforgettable memories and fulfilling lifelong dreams.

Jennifer Miko's journey to becoming a business owner is as inspiring as the rides she offers. A lifelong animal lover, Jennifer began riding horses consistently at 35, discovering a profound connection with these gentle giants. Her passion for horses and the joy of riding led her to establish Equestrian Adventures of Florida, a venture that combines her love for animals with her desire to bring joy to others.

Jennifer holds a bachelor's degree in mass communication from Temple University in Philadelphia and a master's in elementary education from Stetson University in Deland, Florida. She taught sixth-grade science at Ormond Beach Middle School for seven years before transitioning to a 13-year career as a pharmaceutical representative for Merck and Company. Despite these varied experiences, Jennifer found her true calling in running her horseback riding business, humorously referring to herself as a "professional poop picker-upper on the beach."

The unique selling point of Equestrian Adventures of Florida is the chance to ride horses along the beautiful beaches of Florida—a bucket list item for many. Few places in Florida offer this experience, and Jennifer has worked closely with Flagler County to make it possible for both locals and tourists. The rides begin at a public beach approach, where Jennifer provides both general and individualized instruction. Riders learn about the personalities and habits of their horses before embarking on a short trail over the dunes and onto the beach.

Community involvement is a significant part of Jennifer's business ethos. She actively cleans up the beach during rides and has participated in several Make-A-Wish rides for children. Additionally, she donates gift certificates to various charities, further embedding her business in the community.

Equestrian Adventures of Florida has garnered significant recognition, featured on "Florida on a Tankful," Fox 35 News with Dave Martin, and various travel and local magazines. Jennifer's dedication and passion have earned her the top Tripadvisor award for the past four years, solidifying her business as a must-visit attraction in Florida. Whether you're a local or a tourist, a ride with Jennifer is an experience that promises to be both memorable and magical.

You can visit Jennifer’s website at EquestrianAdventuresFl.com or give her a call at (386) 846-8386 for reservations.
