🛒Trader Joe’s & Sprouts Set to Sprout in Daytona
Daytona Beach foodies, rejoice. Trader Joe’s and Sprouts Farmers Market are both on track to open new locations by late 2025 or early 2026, just across the street from each other. That’s big news for those craving everything from Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate to organic kale—without the drive to Orlando.
Trader Joe’s is building out at Tomoka Town Center, next to Homesense and sandwiched between Dave & Buster's and Sports Academy. Meanwhile, Sprouts is under construction across the street at the Shoppes at Williamson Crossing, with a turnkey December delivery anticipated.
Though Fresh Market backed out of a proposed location nearby, locals are still excited about the influx of high-end grocery options. The new stores are already generating buzz for boosting neighborhood appeal, increasing job opportunities, and improving access to health-conscious products.
Looks like Daytona Beach’s grocery game is about to level up—no reusable tote required.

🎆Red, White, and a Boom
Ormond Beach pulled out all the patriotic stops for its annual Independence Day Celebration at Rockefeller Gardens. The free event, which kicked off at 8 p.m., treated residents and visitors alike to the rock stylings of Stealing Vanity, a fleet of food vendors, and an impressive 20-minute fireworks show launched from the Granada Bridge's southern side.
Mayor Jason Leslie addressed the crowd with a proclamation just before the fireworks began, adding a civic touch to the festivities. With the Halifax River glistening beneath the pyrotechnics and free shuttle service helping attendees cross the bridge, the city orchestrated a smooth and spirited celebration. Road closures and organized parking ensured safety and access for all who came out to enjoy the evening under the stars.
It’s another proud chapter in Ormond Beach’s annual tradition, bringing the community together in vibrant style.

🗣️City Hall Gets Heated Over Trespass Dispute
In a less celebratory moment at Ormond Beach’s City Hall, a 40-year-old woman had to be escorted out after challenging a magistrate’s decision—loudly and persistently—regarding her trespass warning appeal.
The incident happened at the end of a hearing session, and despite staff preparing to leave, the woman remained in the chamber, voicing her disapproval and invoking her 14th Amendment rights. According to the police report, tensions escalated when she took steps toward an officer and demanded to know, "Am I a psycho?" multiple times.
Officers restrained her with handcuffs and led her outside as the magistrate was ushered to his vehicle. In the end, she was not arrested but released on-site—a dramatic close to an otherwise routine day in municipal governance.

🏫Volusia Schools Ace the Grade
Great news for Volusia County: the school district has earned its first A rating since the 2008-2009 school year. With improvements in 10 of 12 key accountability areas and no schools dipping below a C, it’s a clear sign of upward momentum.
High schools shone particularly bright, with six of nine traditional schools performing above the state average. Notable standouts include Seabreeze, the district's top-ranked high school, and Mainland High School, which earned its first-ever A. Deltona High stood tall with a 100% graduation rate.
Elementary and middle schools also showed strong results, with a substantial number earning A or B grades. Starke Elementary deserves a shout-out for jumping from a D to an A.
This year's report underscores a district-wide comeback, bolstered by community support and a renewed passion for learning.
