Volusia Braces for Hurricane Conditions as Milton Nears Florida Coast

Hurricane Milton, which forecasters predict could become a Category 4 storm before weakening to a Category 3 upon landfall, is expected to strike Florida’s west-central coast on Wednesday. The storm, currently situated approximately 815 miles southwest of Tampa with sustained winds of 85 mph, is steadily intensifying as it tracks east-northeast, according to the National Hurricane Center. Meteorologists warn that the exact trajectory remains uncertain.

Volusia and Flagler counties could experience tropical storm conditions by Wednesday, with hurricane-force winds possible in Volusia by Wednesday night. Rainfall in the region is expected to total between 4 and 8 inches, with localized areas receiving up to 10 inches. Flood watches have been issued for much of east-central Florida, as residents brace for potential storm surges, flooding, and high winds.

Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 51 counties, including Volusia and Flagler, as emergency preparations ramp up. State officials are preparing for mass evacuations, particularly along the vulnerable west-central coastline, which could see its strongest hurricane impact since 1921.

Holland Financial's Initiative Combines Practical Aid and Spiritual Encouragement for Homeless

Holland Financial has distributed 1,000 care kits to Halifax Urban Ministries, aiming to provide both practical support and emotional encouragement to the homeless. Each kit, assembled at the company’s Ormond Beach headquarters, includes essentials like first-aid supplies and hygiene products, along with a book of Christian inspiration. The kits are emblazoned with the phrase "God Loves Me," a message meant to inspire recipients. David Holland, the CEO of Holland Financial, explained the effort as a way to give people an easy means to help those in need, while also offering hope. In addition to the kits, the company donated 288 pairs of socks to a hurricane relief effort. Halifax Urban Ministries’ Executive Director, Buck James, highlighted the importance of sparking hope in people’s lives as a path toward lasting change.

Where To Find Gas For Milton Prepping

As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, residents are preparing for potential fuel shortages. The GasBuddy Outage Tracker is offering a vital resource, allowing drivers to search for nearby gas stations and filter results based on fuel and power availability. By sharing their location, users can quickly find stations with gas or determine which are experiencing outages. The tracker is designed to be user-friendly, especially as residents scramble to secure fuel ahead of the storm. GasBuddy’s app, available on both Android and iOS, also provides mobile access to the tracker, ensuring drivers can stay updated while on the road. The phone app will give you prices as well.
